NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA
BRCKO - The president of Republika Srpska (RS), Biljana Plavsic, assessed
in Brcko that the OSCE chief, Robert Frowick's decision on the holding of
the elections in the city pursuant to the same rules and at a time as in
the whole of RS is founded on the Dayton agreement and the arbitration
decision. While hailing such a decision, the president Plavsic pointed out
that the decision was expected, because, as she said, 'Sirs Frowick
and Owen were not able to ruin their reputation by not respecting
the laws'. 'The city of Brcko is in RS, and the only characteristic
of Brcko in relation to the other parts of RS is the existence of a
supervisor for the monitoring of the implementation of the Dayton
agreement', the president Plavsic restated.
BRCKO - The best way to preserve Brcko and RS is the compliance with the
laws as the imperative and the way for living in these areas, stated the RS
president, Biljana Plavsic, participating in the talks at a round table on
the legal aspects of the arbitration decision. While citing an expert for
the International Law at a Belgrade University, professor Kosta Cavoski,
the president warned that the compliance with the laws is the imperative
for the survival of small states, adding that it protects them from larger
states and threats of force.
BANJALUKA - The acting president of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS),
Aleksa Buha, assessed in Banjaluka that the process of the implementation
of the Dayton agreement can be the most easily accelerated through the
direct contacts of the representatives of the ruling parties. 'By such
meetings we are trying to prevent negative tendencies and to avoid the
practice that started before the war and which partially provoked the civil
war, stated Buha in a statement for journalists after the third meeting of
the delegations of the SDS and HDZ of B&H'. Stating that during the talks
they gave most of their attention to the problems of the functioning of the
joint bodies, Buha assesses as unacceptable the endeavours taken by a
people itself or in a coalition with the other peoples to dominate in B&H.
SARAJEVO - The World Food Programme (WFP) announced that there has been no
significant reduction of the WFP food aid to the Doboj area, pointing that
in April some 684 metric tonnes were delivered to the region, while the
amount of about 640 tonnes of food was planned for May. In an announcement
which was made available to the Serbian Press Agency - SRNA, the
WFP denied the news item on that the delivery of the WFP food aid
to the Doboj area was reduced for two thirds, pointing out that
at question is just a slight decrease, for less than 7%, in accordance with
the strategy for a gradual and general reduction of the aid and its
focusing on the persons in need.
VUKOVAR - The president of the Executive Council of the Serb Eastern
Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srem district, Vojislav Stanimirovic, talked
in Vukovar with the Yugoslavian ambassador to Zagreb, Veljko Knezevic, on
the current political situation, the post-election period and the
obligations in regard to the constituting of newly-elected authorities. As
the Information Service of the Council reported, an agreement was reached
on the need for the forming of a joint council of municipalities,
the necessity for the fulfilling of the political promises made
in the pre-election campaign as well as on the urgent constituting
of the local authorities.
