Kassos is a small island, accessible by boat either from Karpathos or Crete, being very close to both these islands. There are five communities in Kassos, connected by frequent bus service. In the summer the activity centers around the port of Fri. Other villages are Polio, which is built around the ruins of an old castle, Arvanitohori and Emborios. Kassos has a long maritime tradition, evident in the old mansions and captains homes seen around the island.
