The papers published in the present volume were originally presented at the Eighteenth International Conference of Philosophy which took place from 20th until 27th of July 2006 in the picturesque city of Kavala and in the town of Abdera, the birthplace of the famous philosophers Democritus, Protagoras and of other important Greek thinkers ( Hecataeus etc.) in the Northern Greece.
After the Conference the papers presented underwent a process of amendment which reflected the results of fruitful discussions during the proceedings. The papers are presented in alphabetical order according to the author and all of them deal with the main theme of the Conference, i.e. values and justice in our global era.
The papers deal with the problem of justice in relation to democracy and cosmopolitanism in a globalizing era, with freedom and justice, especially distributive justice, in a cosmopolitan global environment, with the relation of justice to entitlement, rights and self-determination, with the problem of value pluralism in globalization, with personal and individual values in contradistinction to the value of the state, with thick and thin moral concepts and the source of morality and with aesthetic values as exemplified in ancient monuments (palace of Knossos).
The articles in this volume should be studied in conjunction with the papers contained in the other two volume on the philosophy of values and justice, also published by Ionia Publications (Values and Justice in the Global era, Vol. I., Ionia Publications, Athens 2007 and AÎIEÓ KAI ÄIKAIOÓYNH ÓTHN EÐOXH THÓ OIKOYMENIKOTHTAÓ, ÅÊÄÏÓÅÉÓ ÉÙÍÉÁ, ÁÈÇÍÁ · 2007).
