SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Two illustrious contemporary authors in Greece, Ersi Sotiropoulou and Yannis Patilis, will be giving a joined reading at the Alexander S. Onassis Center this Wednesday, December 18, at 6:30 pm.

Ersi Sotiropoulou is a major Greek novelist, whose first and highly experimental novel, "I Farsa" ("The Farce", 1982) made her an instant celebrity. She will be reading from her current work in Greek; the English translations (by Stratis Haviaras, editor of "The Harvard Review") will be read by Liana Theodoratou.

Yiannis Patilis is a major poet and editor of the highly influential journal "Planodion." His most recent collection of poems (his 8th) is titled "Voyages in the Same City" (1994). He and his translator Stathis Gourgouris will be reading from a volume titled "Camel of Darkness," to be published later this month in the prestigious Quarterly Review of Literature Poetry Series.

Both Ersi Sotiropoulou and Yiannis Patilis are currently Writers-In-Residence at Princeton University.

The Alexander S. Onassis Center is located at 58 West 10th Street in New York City.
