The HLS will exhibit a large selection of books (several thousand) printed in both the English and the Greek languages, representing all disciplines and interests in Greek literature: from classical and contemporary art, history, culture, literature and religion to children's books, schoolbooks, language courses, travel guides and cookbooks. Throughout the two days of the exhibit there will also be numerous lectures and workshops on Greek literature. We are inviting all persons of Greek heritage, philhellenes, as well as everybody else to participate in this event of international importance, and experience THE BEST THAT IS GREECE.
The HLS is a non-profit organization and is managed entirely by volunteers. It's mission is to promote the richness of the Hellenic civilization and its vast culture. This undertaking requires support in all forms. If you are able to give of your time, and your talent to mount this exhibition please contact us. In addition to volunteers, there is a viable need for financial support as well. Contributions are tax deductible .
GREEK HERITAGE DICTIONARY, illustrated by K. Adams
Some of the best
illustrators have contributed to this dictionary, which has been carefully
designed to appeal to children, so that learning new words can be a pleasure.
Its unusually large number of terms - 3336 - makes the dictionary a flexible
teaching tool. Because the vocabulary it encompasses is so broad, this
dictionary can be used to teach Greek or English as a Second Language to
children and adults, as well as helping young children acquire language
skills. Great care has been taken to ensure that any contextual statements
made are factual, have some educational value and are compatible with
statements made elsewhere in the book.

ODYSSEUS ELYTIS: From the Golden to the Silver Poem, by A. Decavalles
All seven essays in this volume are dedicated to the eminent modernist Greek
poet, the Nobel laureate of 1979, and its accomplishments. As a poet he has
emphatically been the creator and preacher of his unique , lyrical, cultural
and ethical Gospel which his prevalently erotic idiosyncrasy derived mostly
from the age-old Greek tradition and, more emphatically so, from his origins
in the Aegean sea, and voiced through his rich, original and extraordinary
lyrical gifts.

MYTARAS: DRAWINGS, by Adam
A drawing reveals, as nothing else does, the capabilities and skill of the
artist, since it is the art which least flatters the eye. A drawing, besides,
is a soul-revealing work, disclosing that which dwells in the depths of the
artist's being, be it a woman, a passionate love, a child, the lust for
power, the quest for the unknown, the unforeseen, the eternally beautiful.
Dimitris Mytaras, heir to the tradition of ancient Greek drawing,
illustrates, through his fluid line, the unceasing flow of time.

PSYCHOPEDIS, by Adam
Painting, for Yiannis Psychopedis, is not just a self-sufficient quantity. It
is rather an instrument of critical comment and a means of expressive, as
well as ideological, confrontation, a reaction against the enroachment of
indolent quiescence and alienation, which are always lying in wait, ready to
undermine our personal resistance. Thus the effective pictorial dialogue he
initiates between the functioning work of art and the viewer, is familiar and
instructive. His painting speak of the things we know, with an elegiac grace,
lightning up their unseen side. It is this which lends his art its attraction
and its magic charm.

Stefanides, Curator of the National Gallery, and others.
