AMERICAN APHRODITE, by Constance Callinicos
The author, a long time feminist and activist for women's rights, has most recently concentrated her activism and writing on the subject of becoming female among Greeks in America and in the mother country, Greece. She has published articles and lectured widely on a variety of topics gername to this subject (including an exploration of arranged marriages and the dowry system as it exists in Greek America). In her work, she wishes not only to document this world for those who were born to it, but also to illuminate its complexities for those unfamiliar with it.
298 pgs, 5.5x8.5, Paper, $15.00

DANCING GIRL, by Thordis Simonsen
The author moved to Elika, Greece. The village invited the American girl to meals, weddings, wakes. She picked olives, reaped wheat. Rich in history and warm in spirit "Dancing Girl" links generations of Greek-Americans to their village forebears.
200 pgs, 5.5x8.0 inches, Paper, $11.75

SMALL BIRD TELL ME, by Helen Papanikolas
We children of Greek immigrants were raised on proverbs, forced to attend Greek school, listened to three-hour long liturgies in the small church, rows of candles burning in red votive glasses lighting the icons, incense blue and heavy. This volume ensures that the Greek immigrant experience will not be lost in history.
198 pgs, 6.3x9.3 inches, Paper - $16.95, Cloth - 25.95

MY STORY, by Elisavet Moutzan-Martinegrou
The first literary work in modern Greek written by a woman. As such, it sheds tremendous insights onto the lives of women in Greece in the 19th century. The author lived her entire life on the Ionian island of Zakynthos enduring the restricted existence of genteel Mediterrannean women. In writing her story she confides her feelings of loneliness and frustration and her longing for independence.
346 pgs, 5.0x8.8 inches, Cloth , $22.50
