State Department: Albania - Public Announcement, February 20, 1997

Albania - Public Announcement
February 20, 1997

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Office of the Spokesman

Since mid-January, there have been incidents of violence in some urban areas in Albania due to citizens' frustration with the collapse of pyramid investment schemes. The Department of State recommends that American citizens stay away from crowds and exercise caution at all times.

For updated information, Americans may contact the consular section of the U.S. Embassy, located at Rruga E. Elbasanit 103, Tirana; telephone 355-42-32875; fax 355-42-32222.

For further information on travel to Albania, consult the Department's latest Consular Information Sheet for Albania.

This Public Announcement supercedes the Public Announcement issued January 24, 1997, and will expire on March 31, 1997.
