TEXT: U.S. STATEMENT ON GREEK-TURKISH TERRITORIAL DISPUTES

Washington -- The State Department says it is the U.S. position that Greek-
Turkish territorial disputes, not only that of Imia/Kardak, ought to be
resolved through the International Court of Justice or another mutually-
acceptable dispute resolution mechanism.
Following is the text of a question taken and answer given at the State
Department September 24:

GREEK-TURKISH TERRITORIAL DISPUTES
QUESTION: Does the U.S. position on settling the Greek-Turkish dispute over
Imia/Kardak extend to other territorial disputes between Greece and Turkey,
as well?
ANSWER: Yes, it is the U.S. position that Greek-Turkish territorial
disputes, not only that of Imia/Kardak, ought to be resolved through the
International Court of Justice or another mutually-acceptable dispute
resolution mechanism.
