[04] TURKEY WARNS EU OVER ESDI
Turkey has sent a diplomatic note of warning to 11 European Union
countries which are also members of NATO over their approach on
the European Security and Defence Identity (ESDI). According to
foreign diplomatic sources in Brussels, Turkey sent this note to
remind its recipients of decisions taken at the NATO summit last
April in Washington regarding the ESDI decision-making mechanism.
The note, whose existence has been confirmed by Turkish
diplomatic sources at NATO headquarters in Brussels, was sent to
France, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Germany,
Denmark, Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Greece. In the
note that was sent on May 31, Ankara draws attention to the
conclusions of the NATO Council meeting that was held in Florence
on May 24-25 stressing that the council was confirming the
results of the Washington Summit. The note underlines that the
decision taken by the EU over the participation of non-EU members
in the ESDI contradicts the results of the Washington NATO
summit. /Turkish Daily News/
[05] ECEVIT'S STATEMENT CONCERNING THE DISAGREEMENT BETWEEN MHP AND
ANAP
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit wanted the tension between the
coalition partners, Motherland Party (ANAP) and the Nationalist
Movement Party (MHP) to be removed. Ecevit evaluated the tension
between ANAP and MHP and his visit to Norway during the group
meeting of the Democratic Left Party (DSP) yesterday. Ecevit
said, "In an atmosphere in which the inflation began to decrease
to a great extent, if a governmental or political agitation
occurs, in other words, if this tremor continues, then it will
damage the positive developments that occurred both in Turkey and
abroad. None of the parties or the leaders can carry the
responsibility if this agitation causes a depression. I believe
that all the parties and politicians should keep away from a
style that will increase this kind of tension and agitation."
