Atacanli again emphasized that Turkey prefers using diplomatic channels to resolve the serious crisis involving Iraq and the US.During the weekly Foreign Ministry press conference yesterday, Atacanli said that taking every possibility into consideration, Turkey was taking every preventive measure possible. The gasses of the chemical weapons, he said, were capable of reaching Turkey. The US did not aim to topple Saddam Hussein, but to eliminate Iraq's weapons of mass distruction, the prime minister stressed, warning that in case Saddam is toppled, his son Uday, who is even more fanatical, might take his place -a development which could be more dangerous for the Mideast. /All papers/ [05] VICE ADMIRAL ABBOTT IN ANKARAWhile the crisis between the US and Iraq moves towards a climax, the commander of the US 6th Fleet, Vice Admiral Charles Abbott, came to Ankara yesterday.
