Officials thought that the fire broke out due to the fire that the people who picniced in the forests, had lit. The fire spread around due to soaring temperatures. The fire was contained by the efforts of four fire brigade, one fire-extinguisher plane and the citizens. ISLAM COUNCIL TO CONVENE IN SARAJEVO MILLIYET (LIBERAL)ONE MILLION U.S. DOLLAR LOAN FOR PERMANENT DWELLINGSThe finance for the construction of three-fourth of 40,500 permanent dwellings in quake zone was met. Public Works and Housing Ministry said on Saturday that 1 billion 62 million U.S. dollar loan was provided from the international loan organizations for the construction of 30,000 permament dwellings in the quake zone. Officials of the Public Works and Housing Ministry said that discussions are underway with the Gulf Countries Cooperation Organization to provide 400 million U.S. dollar loan for 10,500 other permanent dwellings in the quake zone. The officials said that 250 million U.S. dollar portion of this loan was provided by the World Bank and 812 million U.S. dollar of it was met by the European Investment and Development Bank. Genc added that they started to investigate the documents of this company. Forest fires broke out in Zongludak, Eskisehir, Bursa, Kocaeli and Canakkale yesterday. Almost 522 hectares of forest was burnt in yesterday's fires. TURKEY CLEANS WORLD YENI BINYIL (LIBERAL)EU PRESSES ON BUTTON FOR AEGEANPremier Bulent Ecevit received a document which was considered as 'secret' by the Foreign Ministry prior to his meeting with Guenter Verheugen, the European Union (EU) Commissioner for enlargement. The document is about four steps that Turkey is requested to take. The document requested that solutions should be found to Cyprus and Aegean questions. Ecevit was angry at the 'Cyprus Republic' statement which was written in the document and said, ''if EU does not interfere with this issue, the problem can be solved more easily.'' NEW PARTNERSHIP FOR WIND POWER HUMAN RIGHTS DIMENSION IN ILISU PROJECT TURKIYE (RIGHT)HOPE INSPRING MESSAGESState Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli said that the harmony in the coalition government will bring success. Bahceli said, ''the harmony in our government will make Turkey a leader and prosperous country. This coalition will contribute to the increase in production and productivity and pave the way for Turkey. We will succeed in our struggle against inflation.'' ZAMAN (CONSERVATIVE)REVIVAL CONTINUESThe number of tourists visiting Antalya province increases every day. Besides the foreign tourists, Turkish people who are going on a holiday in southern provinces and townships, inspire hopes of the tourism sector workers. A total of 1 million 302 thousand 495 tourists arrived in Antalya by planes between January 1 and July 12. [02] AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL AFFAIRS MINISTER LEAVES FOR ITALYISTANBUL - Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister Husnu Yusuf Gokalp left on Sunday for Italy.Prior to his departure from the Ataturk Airport of Istanbul, Gokalp told reporters that he will meet with the officials of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) about the agricultural projects implemented in Turkey. Gokalp said that he will take up the agricultural reforms in Turkey, the problems faced in animal breeding and agriculture. ''There is a joint project of Turkey and FAO that we call 'South-South Project.' This project includes Turkey, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and it has been put into effect. This project will ensure the agricultural development of Turkey and Turkish Republics. We will discuss the details of this project,'' Gokalp said. Gokalp noted that there are some rural development projects in Turkey including Mus, Cankiri, Yozgat, Erzurum, Sivas-Erzincan and Giresun-Ordu rural development projects. The Giresun-Ordu Rural Development Project is being carried out, but new re- organizations are needed for this project, Gokalp stated. ''Sivas-Erzincan Rural Development Project is on the agenda for five years but it has not been launched yet. We will also take up this project,'' Gokalp said. Gokalp added that they will also discuss some rehabilitation projects regarding the farmers. Meanwhile, the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Ministry said that Gokalp will meet with Jacques Diouf, the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and John Wefley, the Deputy Chairman of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Gokalp will visit the ''Turkish Republics Registration Center'' which will be opened in FAO headquarters. Gokalp is expected to return to Turkey on July 19. [03] FOUR HECTARES OF FOREST BURNT IN KUTAHYADOMANIC - Four hectares of forest was burnt in Domanic township of Aegean Kutahya province on Saturday.Sources said that fire which broke out in Harman hamlet near Domanic township due to a spark in energy transmission lines, was taken under control by the efforts of fire brigade of Tavsanli and Domanic townships and spraying vehicles of Kutahya Forestry Regional Directorate. The sources added that cooling efforts are underway in the region. [04] TURKEY WINS FOUR MEDALS IN BIOLOGY OLYMPIADANTALYA - Turkey won on Saturday one gold and three silver medals in the First International Biology Olympiad organized by the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).A total of 156 high school students from 39 countries participated in the olympiad which was held in Belek hamlet of southern Antalya province. The students made four biological experiments and answered 156 theorical questions during the olympiad. A total of 16 students won gold medal, 30 others won silver, and 45 others won bronze medal in the end of the olympiad. Yusuf Ozuysal, a student from Izmir Scientific High School, won gold medal while Munir Akkaya, of the same school, Cafer Ozdemir and Tansel Sitki Tunc from Istanbul Fatih Boys High School, won silver medals in the olympiad. Xanthi Governor Georgies Pavlidis also participated in the signing ceremony. The delegation which came from Xanthi will spend the weekend in Biga and visit the nearby historical and touristic sites. [06] 100 HECTARES OF FOREST BURNT IN CANAKKALECANAKKALE - A total of 100 hectares of forest was burnt in western Canakkale province on Saturday.Sources told A.A correspondent that fire broke out in a forest in Ovacik hamlet of Canakkale on Saturday evening. The sources said that the forest fire was taken under control by the efforts of four fire-extinguisher planes and fire-fighting teams of nearby municipalities. [07] TURKEY WINS FOUR SILVER MEDALS IN FIRST INTERNATIONAL CHORUS OLMPIADSVIENNA - Turkey won on Saturday four silver medals in the First International Chorus Olympiads held in Linz, Austria.Thus, Orfeon Chamber Chorus, which represented Turkey in the olympiads, became the second in the end of the olympiads. The Orfeon Chamber Chorus won silver medals in Renaissance music, jazz, folk music and chamber chorus categories. The Orfeon Chamber Chorus was included in the World Chorus List in the end of the olympiads. The U.S. won gold medal in jazz category, China won gold medal in folk music catgory, and Russia won gold medal in chamber chorus category. [08] TURKEY WINS BRONZE MEDAL IN KURASHANTALYA - Bektas Demirel, competing in 73 kg category, won on Saturday bronze medal in Second World Kurash Championship held in southern Antalya province.In 90 kg category, Bahram Avazov of Uzbekistan became the gold medalist while Anton Minarik of Slovakia won silver medal and Shohrat Allakuliev of Turkmenistan and Sam Delehayi of Britain became the bronze medalists. Competitions of heavy weight men and 63 kg women category will be held on Sunday. Selim Tataroglu of Turkey, who became the World Kurash Champion last year, will take on with his rival on Sunday. [09] TREASURY TO ARRANGE 12-MONTH DEBENTURE BOND TENDERANKARA - The Treasury Undersecretariat will arrange a 12-month debenture bond tender on Tuesday.The bonds will be issued on July 19 while the repayment of bonds will be realized on July 18, 2001. The Treasury foresees a 700-900 trillion Turkish Liras (TL) of net borrowing at the tender on Tuesday. [10] PUBLIC WORKS AND HOUSING MINISTRY OPENS TENDER FOR CONSTRUCTION OF 7,650 DWELLINGS IN QUAKE ZONEANKARA - The Public Works and Housing Ministry opened on Sunday a tender for the construction of 7,650 dwellings in quake zone.Ali Helvaci, the Public Works and Housing Ministry Undersecretary, said that a tender for the constructon of 1,200 more dwellings will be opened later. Helvaci noted that 650 of the dwellings will be built in Ikitelli district of Istanbul and 7,000 of them will be constructed in Duzce. A total of 9,000 dwellings will be constructed by foreign loan, Helvaci stated. Helvaci said that they will receive the bids on July 25. The construction of all permanent dwellings, including 15,460 houses which had earlier been opened to tender, is planned to be finished by the end of this year, Helvaci added. [11] 3,000 HECTARES OF FOREST BURNT IN THREE DAYSANKARA - A total of 3,000 hectares of forest was burnt in Turkey in the last three days.Officials of the Foreign Ministry said that fires broke out in 83 forests since July 13. The officials noted that total number of forest fires that broke out in Turkey since the beginning of 2000, is 805. A total of 12,479 hectares of forest was burnt since the beginning of 2000, the officials stated. The officials stressed that 667 forest fires broke out and 1,043 hectares of forest was burnt in the same period in 1999. [12] EXPORTS FROM GAP REGIONGAZIANTEP - The Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) region exported products worth of 15 million 134 thousand U.S. dollars to the countries in America in six months.The figures of Southeastern Anatolia Exporters Union indicated that the exports to America decreased 3 percent and that the region exported 15 million 594 thousand U.S. dollars in the same period in 1999. A total of 267 thousand U.S. dollar grain, 5 million 73 thousand U.S. dollar dried fruit and 9 million 794 thousand U.S. dollar textile were exported to America between January and July 2000. The GAP region exported to the U.S., Argentina, Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Canada, Venezuela and Mexico in the mentioned period. [13] TURKEY TO HAND OVER TWO BOATS TO TRNC AND AZERBAIJANANKARA - TCG AB-34 fighter boat of Turkish Naval Forces Commandership will be handed over to Azerbaijani Naval Forces Commandership on Monday.A coast guard board of Turkish Armed Forces which was constructed in Taskizak Shipyard, will be transferred to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Security Forces Commandership on July 19. Officials of Naval Forces Commandership said on Sunday that TCG AB-34 fighter boat will be transferred to Azerbaijani Naval Forces Commandership in a ceremony held in western Izmir province on Monday. The officials noted that the fighter boat is 40.2 metres in length, 6.40 metres in width and 220 tons in weight. After the ceremony, the TCG AB-34 fighter boat, having 28 Azerbaijani personnel and two Turkish consultants, will leave for Azerbaijan, the officials stated. The officials stressed that Turkish Naval Forces trained 28 Azerbaijani personnel on the boat between April 17 and May 12. The officials said that Ilhami Erdil, the Naval Forces Commander, will hand over a coast guard board which was constructed in Taskizak Shipyard, to TRNC Security Forces Commandership in a ceremony held in Girne on July 19. The officials noted that the ceremony will be held within the framework of the celebrations of 26th anniversary of Cyprus Peace Operation. The TRNC SG 01 coast guard boat is 40.75 metres in length, 7.05 metres in width and 182.4 tons in weight, the officials stated. The officials added that four officers, 8 non-commissioned officers, and 12 privates will be on mission on the coast guard boat. [14] 2TH INTERNATIONAL BOGAZICI RACES HELDISTANBUL - The 12th International Bogazici Swimming and Rowing Races from Asia to Europe organized by the Turkish National Olympiad Committee, were held between Kanlica and Kurucesme districts of Istanbul on Sunday.Genco Ucar of Turkey became the first in swimming and Fenerbahce (A) team ranked the first in rowing. A total of 211 people, including 12 foreigners from Germany, the U.S., Austria, Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine and Canada, participated in the swimming races held in 12 categories. Ucar became the first in swimming with 1.02.49.43 score. Dimitar Vidanov of Bulgari followed Ucar with 1.09.21.28 and Ivan Kramer of Bulgaria became the third with 1.12.33.59. In rowing races, Fenerbahce (C) team became the second and Naval Forces team became the third. [15] 72 ALBANIAN CHILDREN ARRIVE IN ISTANBULISTANBUL - A total of 72 Albanian children, who were invited to Turkey by Premier Bulent Ecevit and his wife Rahsan Ecevit, arrived in Istanbul on Sunday.The first group of Albanian children departed from Turkey while the second group arrived in Istanbul. In the ceremony held to welcome and see off the two groups of Albanian children, Kahraman Eroglu, Provincial Social Services Director, said that Ecevit and his wife invited these children to Turkey during their visit to Albania and that 72 Albanian children had ten-day camping in southern Silifke township and spent four days in Istanbul. Eroglu noted that this visit enables the improvement of friendly relations between Turkish and Albanian children. Eroglu added that the Albanian children who are visiting Turkey are from an orphanage and Mustafa Kemal Secondary School in Tirana. Albana Tahiri, Headmaster of Mustafa Kemal Secondary School, said that they are very pleased about this visit. After they visit Ecevit on Monday, the second group of Albanian children will go on camping in Silifke. [16] SPORTS-MARKSMANSHIP -37TH WORLD MILITARY CHAMPIONSHIPS TO START ON MONDAYANKARA - The 37th World Military Marksmanship Championships will start in the Land War Academy Commandership in Ankara on Monday.Almost 550 sharpshooters from 36 countries will attend the championships organized by the International Military Sports Council (CISM). The championships will end on July 28.
