Demirel said he held consultations with Gligorov many times on Kosovo question and called for a solution through peaceful means. Demirel said ''this did not reach a result so NATO started to use force as of March 24.''

Noting that there was an ethnical cleansing in Kosovo and that people of Kosovo were forced to leave their houses, Demirel said this caused an important immigration pressure on Macedonia and Albania.

Demirel said Turkey established camps in Albania and Macedonia, it is very sorrowful that people are obliged to mass immigrations. ''This problem will be solved in the end and the refugees will return to their houses. Yet, this should happen before winter.''

Demirel noted that Gligorov conveyed the problems his country met because of this incident and pointed out that ''he is right. I am calling on all the civilized world for help.''

There are two important issues: The first one is that the soldiers will be there as peace mission soldiers and the second one is that the soldiers will be able to enter Kosovo if a peace agreement is signed in Kosovo. No attack can be staged to another country from Macedonian territories.''

Meanwhile, President Demirel, responding to a question of a Macedonian journalist, said ''Turkey is a NATO member country. It will abide by the decisions of NATO. Morover, NATO announces that it will not launch a land operation.''

Officials at the Red Crescent camp said they will establish at the first stage a camp where a total of five thousand people can stay and later the capacity will be increased to ten thousand.

President Demirel said lending a helping hand to the tyrannized people of Kosovo is first of all Turkey's duty.

''Albania, Turks, everybody in Kosovo are our sisters and brothers. We consider that we were also exposed to oppression. The torture and oppression against these people is an unpleasant event,'' Demirel said.

Recalling that ten thousand Kosovars arrived in Turkey and some of them were settled near their relatives, Demirel said, ''this means that there are many Kosovars whose relatives are living in Turkey. And this proves that we are very close to each other. Besides, 3,500 Kosovars were settled at the Guesthouse in Kirklareli.''

''The people, who were forced to abandon Kosovo, will return back to their homes. This is the commitment of the NATO, which is the representative of the cilized world. The people, who were exposed to this treatment, are not faulty or guilty. I praise Albania's attitude in this issue,'' Demirel said.

Noting that the event in Kosovo is the struggle between democracy and totalitarism, Demirel said, ''in order to make our common values live and let the hope overcome the pessimism, the air operation, which was started by the NATO with determination against the Belgrade regime which is responsible of the inhumane massacre, should absolutely finish successfully, and the people who are responsible of this shame of humanity, should absolutely put on trial.''

''I want to state that we are pleased with Albania's lending helping hand to Kosovars, who escaped from the murders of Milosevic. Turkey has always supported Albania and will continue to do so,'' he said.

''The NATO air operation will continue till these targets are reached. The people, who continue to contact with Milosevic and support him, should rapidly give up the policies, which will encourage and incite Milosevic to crimes against humanity, if they really want to contribute to peace. The only way to contribute to peace is Milosevic's meeting NATO's demands,'' Demirel said.

President Demirel said this difficult and tough period will finish in near future and the Belgrade regime will be obliged to fulfil the expectations of the international community, stressing that the NATO is determined to this end.

Albanian President Mejdani said that the visit of President Demirel is a great moral and political support for them.

''There is a very sensitive situation. This stemmed from Belgrade's massacre. This clash is not a clash between two communities. This is a clash between two mentalities. This is a clash between democracy and violence. This is a clash between democracy and pro-Hitler attitudes in central Europe. This will be the victory of democracy and humanity'' Mejdani said.

President Suleyman Demirel later proceeded to Macedonia. Demirel was welcomed by Macedonian President Kiro Gligorov at the Petrovec Airport in Skopje.
