HIPERMARKET FROM KOC HOLDING TO KAZAKHSTAN
Koc Holding will open its eight Ramstore in abroad in Kazakhstan. The Ramstore will be opened in April. Other Ramstores will be opened in Ukraine, Bulgaria and Georgia. The cost of the shopping center is estimated to be reached to 30 million dollars.

The question where Abdullah Ocalan, chief of the separatist terrorist organization, is a ''taboo'' in corridors of the government of Rome. A total of five people, apart from the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister know the place of Apo.

''WE HAVEN'T CALLED FOR URGENT AID FROM IMF''
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit denied the allegations that Turkey wanted urgent aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for foreign borrowing payments. Ecevit said ''of course we want the support of IMF and other finance institutions but this does not have anything with the debts we have to pay.''

THE PLACE OF APO IS KNOWN
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, briefing about the recent developments about Abdullah Ocalan, chief of separatist terrorist organization, said he landed in Nijni Novgorod city of Russia. Ecevit said separatist terrorist organization is about to disperse. Meanwhile, President Suleyman Demirel said nobody will own such a person which claimed thousands of lives.

Jirinovski said, ''he is my best friend, but you can't get detailed information from me about this issue, I can only talk to journalists only if I get money.''

EXPORT FROM GAP REGION INCREASES
The export to the European Union countries from the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) region increased 19.9 percent to 116 million 595 thousand US dollars in 1998. In 1997, the region realized 97 million 216 thousand US dollars in export. The region exported 84 million 281 thousand US dollars in textiles; 2 million 317 thousand US dollars in grain-cereals; 28 million 24 thousand US dollars in dried fruits and 1 million 973 thousand US dollars in livestock.

PRIME MINISTER ECEVIT: WE DID NOT REQUEST DEBT FROM THE IMF
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit stressed that his government did not request financial aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in order to repay Turkey's foreign debts. He pointed out, ''We have relations with the IMF, but the news claiming that we requested financial aid to repay foreign debts worth of 24 billion US dollars, is not true.''

HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH CONDEMNS ITALIAN GOVERNMENT:
The Human Rights Watch condemned the Italian government which permitted Abdullah Ocalan, the chief of the separatist terrorist organization PKK to escape from Italy and which missed the opportunity to put Ocalan on trial. Humah Rights Watch pointed out that Abdullah Ocalan is responsible for hundreds of murders including civilians, women, children, teachers, its political oppositions, soldiers and policemen.

PATRIOT MISSILES IN TURKEY
Some of the launchers of the Patriot missiles which will be deployed in Turkey against a possible Iraqi threat, and American staff who will use the missiles, arrived at the Incirlik Base yesterday. The whole Patriot system is expected to be ready within a week.

[02] PATRIOT MISSILES BEGIN TO COME TURKEY

Several launchers of the missiles and the American staff who will use the missiles were brought to the base by a military aircraft. Diplomatic sources told the A.A correspondent that transportation of the missiles will continue in coming days.

The whole system is expected to be ready within a week.

The Patriot missiles are planned to be deployed at the Incirlik Base in Southern Adana Province.

[03] HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH CONDEMNS ITALIAN GOVERNMENT: - ''OCALAN SHOULD BE TRIED WITH THE ACCUSATION OF COMMITTING CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY''

The Human Rights Watch issued a statement stressing that Ocalan should be tried with the accusation of committing crimes against humanity.

The statement recalled, ''Ocalan who has been in Italy since November 12, 1998, is the responsible of 768 illegal executions and massacres of civilians including many women, children and even babies, between 1992 and 1995.''
Holly Cartner, the Chairman of the Human Rights Watch's Department of European and Central Asian Affairs emphasized, ''those committing crimes against humanity, should account for their violent acts. The

Italian government and the international society could not give a message to those who committed violence saying that they will be held responsible for their crimes, and could not prove the faithfullness of Italy and other countries to the international justice system.''

The Human Rights Watch also emphasized that a legal basis is needed to punish the crimes committed against humanity, calling overall countries to approve the plan envsaging the establishment of an ''international court for universal crimes such as crimes against humanity''.

[04] RELATIONS BETWEEN GREECE-SEPARATIST TERRORIST ORGANIZATION - TURKEY HARSLY REACTS TO CONTACTS OF TERRORIST KANI YILMAZ IN ATHENS

Foreign Ministry statement said several newspapers published on Jan 19 and 20 in Greece issued news reports saying that terrorist Kani Yilmaz (Faysal Dunlayici) has been holding contacts in Athens for three days to bring chief terrorist to Greece. Terrorist Kani Yilmaz also threatened that separatist terrorist organization will stage attacks on several cities mainly Ankara, Izmir and Istanbul.

The statement said this person who was granted asylum in Germany, could get free circulation in Europe, arrived in Greece which is known by the whole world to provide support to terrorist organization, and fearlessly said that they will commit bloody murders in Turkey. The statement said this meant challenge to the law and the will to struggle against terrorism.

The Ministry statement said it was not suprising that threats towards Turkey were made in Greece adding that this proved the support of Greece to the murder organization.

The statement pointed out that this crooked mentality, tolerating terrorist threats targetting right to live in Turkey, was rejected adding that Turkey continue its determination to struggle against terrorism and will launch necessary initiatives about this latest event.

[05] THE PLACE WHERE TERRORIST CHIEF HIDES

Meanwhile, Nezavisimaya newspaper, issued in Russia, published an interview which is said to be made with the chief terrorist.

The newspaper said Ocalan wanted to get asylum from Russia and added that he claimed that Russia continued to think of granting him asylum. The news report pointed out that Ocalan said this attitude of Russia made his situation difficult as other countries waited for Russia's response to take a decision about him.

The news report said terrorist chief wanted Yevgeni Primakov, Russian Prime Minister to evaluate in details his desire to settle in Russia and that he wanted to meet with Primakov to persuade him.

Terrorist chief had arrived in Russia after he fled from Syria and wanted to settle there but he had to go to Italy due to the attitude of Primakov which opposed to the idea of granting him asylum.

[06] PRESIDENT NAZARBAEV OF KAZAKHSTAN SUPPORTS BAKU-CEYHAN ROUTE - CETIN MEETS WITH RUSSIAN PREMIER PRIMAKOV

Cetin who was received by President Nazarbaev following the ceremonies, conveyed President Suleyman Demirel's message of congratulations to Nazarbaev.

Responding to questions of the journalists, Cetin described the meeting as productive and positive.

Meanwhile Cetin came together with Russian Prime Minister Yevgeni Primakov who was also in Kazakhstan for the ceremonies.

Primakov reiterated once again that Russia will not shelter Abdullah Ocalan, the chief of separatist terrorist organization PKK, on her lands.

Cetin pointed out that they evaluated the relations between Turkey and Russia with Primakov during the meeting.

Describing Turkey and Russia as the most important countries of the region, Cetin quoted Primakov as saying that they will never allow a bloody-handed terrorist to shelter in Russia.

Cetin and accompanying delegation left Kazakhstan after they completed their contacts in this country.

Hikmet Cetin is expected to arrive at Esenboga Airport later on Thursday.

[07] HEAVY SNOWFALL PARALYZES DAILY LIFE AND TRAFFIC IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF TURKEY

A total of 41 village roads in Tufanbeyli, Saimbeyli and Feke counties of Southern Adana Province, were closed to traffic as a result of snowstorm.

Meanwhile the highway teams maintain activities to re-open 140 village roads in Meram, Selcuklu, Celtik, Ilgin, Hadim, Aksehir, Eregli, Halkapinar, Guneysinir, Doganhisar and Derbent counties of the Central Konya Province.

Officials at the Directorate General of State Meteorology said that they do not expect more snowfall in coming days.

[08] PROFILE OF EXPORTS FROM GAP REGION - 32.8 MILLION U.S. DOLLARS OF LIQUID OIL EXPORTED IN 1998

In 1997, the region exported 46 million 375 thousand US dollars of liquid oil.

Officials at the Directorate of Southeastern Anatolia Exporters' Union told the A.A correspondent that they exported liquid oil mainly to Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Jordan, Romania and Uzbekistan.

[09] YACHT TOURISM - TURKEY OBTAINS 170 TRILLION TURKISH LIRAS OF INCOME FROM YACTH TOURISM

Officials told the A.A correspondent that nearly 15 thousand yachtes visited Mugla coasts which has the biggest yacht marinas of Aegean and Mediterranean coasts of Turkey, annually.

Yacht marinas in Mugla Province and surroundings have a capacity of a total of 3,500 yachtes. This number is expected to increase up to 7 thousand in 2000s.

Meanwhile the Marmaris-Netsel Marina, the Marmaris Albatros Marina and the Marmaris Hisaronu BY Marina have Blue Flag which symbolizes high quality in marines and in coasts all over Europe.

[10] 72 UNIVERSITIES FOUNDED IN 75 YEARS

Institution of Higher Education (YOK) Chairmanship issued a report titled ''Current Situtation of Turkish Higher Education'' which said the point reached in education field improved so much that can not be compared with the first periods of Republic.

There was only one university in the period when Republic was declared but now there are 72 universities. Number of students reached to 1.4 million from 2.914 and the number of lecturers increased to 56.401 from 307.

The report said the year 1992 was a turning point in the establishment of new universities. A total of 43 new universities were established between 1992-1998.

[11] NEW MINE-DETECTING SHIP IN GOLCUK

The Secretariat General of the Commandership of Naval Forces issued a statement saying that a receiving ceremony organized for the new mine- detecting ship in the military port in Golcuk.

The ''TCG Erdemli'', the last of the mine-detecting ships, will be brought to Turkey next month.

[12] TURKISH CARNATION FOR ST. VALENTINE DAY

Gobus reminded that they exported 10 million carnations to the European countries including Britain, Germany and the Netherlands, for Christmas.

The carnation export for ST. Valentine Day will begin in early days of February.

Stressing that they exported 172 million branch of flowers and obtained an income of 25 million US dollars in 1998, Gobus told the A.A correspondent that their target for 1999 is to export 200 million branch of flowers in return of an income of 27 million US dollars.

[13] FOREIGN TRADE WITH ITALY - EXPORTATION TO ITALY DECREASED 26.9 PERCENT LAST DECEMBER

According to the data of the unions, exportation records which was 173.1 million U.S. dollars to Italy in December 1997 reduced to 126.5 million U.S. dollars. The decrease in exportation records was 26.9 percent when compared to December month of the previous year.

A total of 147.9 million U.S. dollars exportation was recorded to Italy last year in November. According to November records 14.5 percent recession was recorded.

According to the figures of State Statics Institude exportation to Italy which was 154.7 million U.S. dollars in November in 1997 recessed to 145.9 million dollars last year in November. The official records say exportation to Italy dereased 5.7 percent last year in November.

Exportation to this country increased to 1.3 billion U.S. dollars with an increase of 11.98 percent as of Jan-Nov period.

Meanwhile it was also reported that importation from Italy reduced to 343.5 million U.S. dollars last year in November. A total of 386.3 million U.S. dollars importation was made in 1997 in November.

Importation figures from EU member countries Germany and Britain also decreased in the same period.

Turkish people had boycotted Italian goods last November and December due to the attitude of Italy protecting Abdullah Ocalan, chief of separatist terrorist organization.

[14] PRIME MINISTER ECEVIT SAYS THEY HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED AN OFFICIAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE PLACE OF TERRORIST CHIEF

Ecevit responded to the questions of journalists about the issue in Democratic Left Party (DSP) headquarters. When recalled the statements of Jirinovski published in media which said he may disclose the place of Abdullah Ocalan, chief of the separatist terrorist organization, in return of money, Ecevit said ''how much you take Jirinovski into consideration that much you take into consideration his words.''

When asked about the coming of patriot missiles to Turkey, Ecevit said ''that has become definite.''

[15] RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES IN TURKEY IN 2000 - SELCUK MUNICIPALITY PREPARES PROGRAMME OF CEREMONIES ALONG WITH THE CATHOLIC SOCIETY

Responding to questions of the A.A correspondent, Kamil Subasi, the Mayor of Selcuk, noted that Turkey, one of the most significant centers of the Christianity, should realize serious projects in 2000.

Subasi pointed out that the Selcuk Municipality will complete the environment arrangement around House of Virgin Mary, restoration of ancient canals and setting up a cable railway from Pamucak to House of Virgin Mary within the scope of project ''Religious Belief Tourism in 2000''.

Emphasizing that they have determined the programme of the religious ceremonies in Ephesus in 2000 with the Catholic Society, Subasi told the A.A correspondent that they plan to organize at least one ceremony in the House of Virgin Mary and surroundings in every month.

[16] EXHIBITION OF PHOTOGRAPHS OF ATATURK, FOUNDER OF MODERN TURKEY, IN BRUSSELS

Responding to questions of journalists, Dumoulin noted that their association has a total of 4,500 photographs and documents belonging to Ataturk.

The photographs and documents will later be sent to Turkey to be displayed.

[17] SALE OF PAMUK'S LATEST NOVEL ''MY NAME IS RED'' REACHES 100 THOUSAND

The readers show great interests in the book which was come on the markets on December 12, 1998.

''My Name is Red'' which became a bestseller in Turkey in a short period of time, come to the markets with monopoly tax label of both the Culture Ministry and the Iletisim Publishing House.

Orhan Pamuk, the writer of the famous books such as ''Mr. Cevdet and His Sons'', ''White Castle'', ''Black Book'', ''New Life'', ''Silent House'' and ''Secret Face'', describes his last book as his most colourful and most optimistic work.

''My Name is Red'' takes place within nine snowy days in 1591's Istanbul.

The book tells the story of traditional painters of miniatures which reflects the world from the eyes of God.

All characters tell their own stories in the book which begins with three verses of Koran.

The woman character of the book, Sekure, appears as a young and beautiful woman with two sons, whose husband never returns from war.

The novel starts with the return of Kara, the main male character of the book who is desperately in love with Sekure, from exile of 12 years.

Ahmet Bayram, the Chairman of Cappadocia Touristic Enterprises Association, told the A.A correspondent that tourists show great interests in the Goreme Open Air Museum, Zelve Ruins, Derinkuyu and Kaymakli Underground cities.
