    HURRIYET (LIBERAL) TURKEY IS WALKING
    The celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the founding of our Republic will start today with walkings throughout the country with the participation of millions of people.

    Millions of people, who will drape into the streets with Turkish flags in 80 provinces, will shout that they are the guards of the Republic of Turkey founded by the great leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

    Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz and other ministers are expected to participate in the walking in Ankara which will last at Mausoleum of Ataturk.

    CONFESSION OF A PKK TERRORIST: ''WE ARE GIVING STRUGGLE FOR OUR LIVES''
    ''Ebubekir'' code-named Halil Atac, the separatist terrorist PKK's one of the so-called administrators in Northern Iraq, said that there were very serious developments and they were struggling for their lives.

    Speaking to the terrorist PKK's TV channel Med TV by phone, Atac said that a large-scale operation by the Turkish Armed Forces and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) peshmargas came into the agenda and they were facing a big destruction movement and they were struggling for their lives.

    Fikri Saglar, a deputy from the Republican Peoples Party (CHP) said that politicians wanted to cover up a scandal involving Allattin Cakıcı, a notorious mafia boss who was captured in Nice city of France allegedly interfering with state sell-offs.

    WALK TO BE HELD FOR THE 75TH FOUNDATION
    ANNIVERSARY OF THE REPUBLIC
    At 10.00 today, hundreds of people will walk for the 75th foundation anniversary of the Turkish Republic. Only in Istanbul,

    100,000 people are expected to walk.

    Thousands of people including young-old, civilians-soldiers are expected to gather nationwide and walk for processions celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic.

    ECEVIT:''LET'S HOLD ELECTIONS IN APRIL''
    Bulent Ecevit, the leader of the Democratic Leftist Party (DSP) said that the elections can be held on April 18 and the government can stay in power till that date.

    NEW TACTIC FOR BAKU-CEYHAN
    An American official said that Turkey has to make Baku-Ceyhan pipeline more more attractive in respect of commerce. Officials in Washington D.C. point out that the bill of the pipeline can not be met by the taxes paid by the American people.

    DIFFICULT TEST OF ISRAEL AND PALESTINE
    A new period has started in the Middle East by the signing of a temporary peace agreement between Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister and Yaser Arafat, the Palestinian leader. The final meetings of the peace process will start within ten days. Netanyahu said that ''I believe that we'll overcome bigger obstacles that wait for us.'' Describing Netanyahu as ''his peace partner,'' Arafat stated that ''we'll never give up peace process and not return to violence and clash.''

    RADIKAL (LEFT)

    MAFIA'S JUSTICE
    Large and small gangs put their hands to almost every commercial lawsuit at adjudication. Most of the people, who thinks the adjudication process will be late, transfer their trials to the mafia in spite of the courts. The commission rate is between 10 and 15 percent.

    Everyone, who wants help from the mafia, can knock at their door but on the condition of down payment.

    ECEVIT: ''UNFORTUNATELY, 18 APRIL''
    Bulent Ecevit, the leader of the Democratic Left Party (DSP), who had opened to debate the issue of ''early elections in December 1998'' but later agreed to ''February 1999'', has now chosen ''18 April 1999'' which was determined by the Parliament.

    ''Unfortunately, the opportunity for having early general elections in December 1998 was missed as an ''hesitation period'' was experienced except the DSP,'' he said.

    YENİ YÜZYIL (LIBERAL)

    GREAT WALK
    The most magnificent of the celebrations held for the 75th foundation anniversary of the Turkish Republic will be held today. More than 10 million soldiers and civilians in 80 provinces and 700 counties will walk together hand in hand for the Turkish Republic.

    OPPOSITION IS READY FOR FEBRUARY
    The Virtue Party (FP) and the True Path Party (DYP), which are opposition parties support the idea of Prime Minister Mesut Yılmaz who said that the elections can be held in February. As it is known, Deniz Baykal, the leader of the Republican Peoples Party (CHP) did not accept the proposal of Yılmaz. Bulent Ecevit, the leader of the Democratic Leftist Party (DSP) also supports the proposal.

    TÜRKİYE (RIGHT)

    STRUGGLE WITH TERRORISM HASN'T ENDED
    Hilmi Ozkok, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff said that the struggle with terrorism has not ended. Noting that terrorist activities are a painful and contagious disease, General Ozkok said that ''one which gives support to terrorism, puts herself into danger.'' Pointing out that several countries in our region are closely interested in terrorism and mass destruction weapons, General Ozkok stated that ''because these countries consider terrorism, fundamentalism and mass destruction weapons as tools of realizing their national interests and they take action to this end.''

    PKK IS IN PANIC
    The dissolution in the separatist terrorist organization has speeded up by the withdrawal of Syrian support to this terrorist organization and the escape of Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the terrorist PKK to Russia. Many PKK terrorists who don't know what to do, try to enter to the Iranian border region which is controlled by Talabani, the leader of the Patriotic Union for Kurdistan (PUK).

    ZAMAN (CONSERVATIVE)

    THEY BURN THEMSELVES FOR OCALAN
    The number of the PKK terrorists who burned themselves in prisons for Ocalan, the chief of the PKK, reached 12. Five of these terrorists died. Meanwhile more than 5000 prisoners started hunger strike to protest the socalled attacks concerning Ocalan.

    [02] GENERAL KIVRIKOGLU, THE CHIEF OF GENERAL STAFF RETURNS TO TURKEY FROM ITALY

    ANKARA, Oct 25 (A.A) - General Huseyin Kıvrıkoglu, the Chief of the General Staff returned to Turkey from Italy on Saturday where he participated in the West European Union (WEU) Military Committee Meeting.

    General Secretariat of the General Staff said in a written statement that Turkey is represented at the highest level and in an effective way in the WEU military structure.

    The statement noted that efforts were launched to strengthen the operational ability of the WEU and views were exchanged about formations concerning the new security architecture of Europe at the meeting held in Italy.

    The issues of strengthening of NATO-WEU relations, strengthening of WEU Exercises and Albanian Police organization and broadening of its activity field were taken up at the meeting.

    General Kıvrıkoglu held bilateral contacts with chiefs of general staff of other countries noted the statement, adding that ''principles concerning WEU exercises supported by NATO were discussed at the meeting. The existing methods will be tried at NATO-WEU Crisis Administration Seminar on February 3, 1999 and a framework agreement will be prepared which will include methods concerning the cooperation between NATO and WEU due to the results reached. Turkey will attend this seminar.''

    Noting that Turkey will equally participate in the Crisis Administration Exercises which will be planned and carried out by WEU Headquarter, the statement added that ''within this framework,

    Turkey will participate in the WEU Crisis Administration Exercise which will be carried out between 20-26, November, 1998. Turkey is also represented at the WEU Multilateral Police Consultation unit which was established to strengthen the Albanian Police Organization.''

    [03] THE MARCH FOR THE 75TH FOUNDATION ANNIVERSARY OF THE TURKISH REPUBLIC STARTS

    ANKARA, Oct 25 (A.A) - Thousands of civilians and soldiers march through 80 provinces and 700 counties in Turkey on Sunday in a show of respect for the memory of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk who founded Turkey as a secular republic 75 years ago.

    Salih Yıldırım and Yucel Seckiner, the State Ministers, General Rasim Betir, the Commander of Gendarmerie, General Hilmi Ozkok, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, deputies, Erdogan Sahinoglu, the Governor of Ankara, rectors of some universities, Melih Gokcek, the Mayor of Ankara, officers, students and many citizens participate in the march in Ankara which started at Hipodrom at 10.00 and which will end at Ataturk's Masoleum.

    A scout group which is walking in front of the cortege carry banners, posters including photos of Ataturk, the founder of the modern and secular republic and a big Turkish flag. Citizens have Turkish flags in their hands.

    Responding to questions of journalists, Yucel Seckiner, the State Minister said that ''if there is democracy in Turkey today, we owe it to the Republic. We do our best to protect the Republic.''

    [04] THE MARCH FOR THE 75TH FOUNDATION ANNIVERSARY OF THE TURKISH REPUBLIC ENDS IN ISTANBUL

    ISTANBUL, Oct 25 (A.A) - The march held in Istanbul on Sunday for the 75th foundation anniversary of the Turkish Republic ended the same day.

    The march started at 10.00 in front of the Ali Sami Yen Stadium and ended at the Republic Monument at Taksim Square in Istanbul.

    Hikmet Cetin, the Parliament Speaker, Cavit Kavak and Hasan Gemici, the State Ministers, Erol Cakır, the Istanbul Governor, Hasan Ozdemir, the General Director of Security in Istanbul, students from military and civilian schools, sportsmen and citizens marched for approximately for 3,5 hours.

    The cortege which was carrying Turkish flags and posters of Ataturk, the founder of modern and secular Republic shouted slogans like ''Turkey is secular and she will remain so,'' and sang various marches.

    Erol Cakır, the Governor of Istanbul said that hundreds of people living in Istanbul marched the same day to show their loyalty to the Republic and principles and reforms of Ataturk on the 75th foundation anniversary of the Republic.

    [05] RICHARD CLAYDERMAN, THE FAMOUS FRENCH PIANIST IN TURKEY

    ISTANBUL, Oct 25 (A.A) - Richard Clayderman, the famous French pianist arrived in Turkey on Saturday to give concerts here within the framework of the celebrations held due to the 75th foundation anniversary of the Turkish Republic.

    Richard Clayderman, whose album named ''Turquie...Mon Amour'' will be presented to the music market nowadays, will give three concerts in Istanbul and one concert in Ankara.

    Clayderman will present his album as a gift to the 75th foundation anniversary of the Turkish Republic and he plays Turkish classical, folk and pop songs in his album in order to promote Turkish music abroad.

    The famous pianist will give concerts in Istanbul between 25-27 October and his last concert will be in Ankara on October 28.

    [06] ''REPUBLIC RACE'' IN ANKARA

    ANKARA, Oct 25 (A.A) - The Ankara Municipality organized on Sunday a ''Republic Race'' between the Parliament and the Mausoleum of Ataturk within the framework of the celebrations held for the 75th anniversary of the founding of the modern Republic of Turkey.

    Hundreds of people living in Ankara and Melih Gokcek, the Mayor of Ankara, and his wife Nevin Gokcek participated in the race which lasted at the Mausoleum of Ataturk.

    Meanwhile, Turkey's first zeppelin, which was brought to Turkey by the Koc Holding from the US and mounted at a shipyard in Tuzla, Istanbul, flied over Ankara within the framework of the Republic celebrations.

    [07] PUBLIC OFFERING FROM TREASURY

    ANKARA, Oct 25 (A.A) - The Treasury will put one-year term state bonds up for sale over US dollar on 27 October through public borrowing, it was reported on Sunday.

    The one-year term state bonds will have a coupon rate payment in every quarter. The repayment of the bonds will be realized on 26 October 1999.

    The bonds' period interest will be three percent and annual simple interest will be 12 percent. For every one thousand US dollar bond, 30 US dollars will be paid separately on 26 January 1999, 27 April 1999, 27 July 1999 and on 26 October. The corpus payment will be made on 26 October 1999.

    The yield of these bonds will be ''net'' as the withholding deduction on the state domestic borrowing title deeds was lifted by 1 October 1998.

    The names of the banks and intermediary institutions to mediate in the sales of these bonds are as follows:

    ''Central Bank branch offices, Akbank, Alternatifbank, Bank Kapital, Bayindirbank, Demirbank, Disbank, Egebank, EGS Bank, Esbank, Etibank, Kentbank, Kocbank, Midland Bank, Osmanli Bank, Oyakbank, Pamukbank, Sekerbank, Is Bank, Garanti Bank, Ticaret Bank, Vakiflar Bank, Tarisbank, Tekstilbank, Toprakbank, TSKB, Yapi

    [08] TEKEL TO REALIZE JOINT PRODUCTION OF CIGARS WITH CUBA

    NEVSEHIR, Oct 25 (A.A) - The Directorate General of Monopolies (TEKEL) accelerated its activities for the realization of joint production of cigars with Cuba, it was reported on Sunday.

    Mehmet Akbay, the General Director of the TEKEL, told the A.A correspondent that a protocol for the joint production of cigars was signed in the Turkish-Cuban Joint Economic Commission's meeting in 1997.

    Pointing out that Cuba gave a licence to Turkey for the production of cigars within the framework of the protocol, Akbay said, ''two Cuban experts came to Turkey to produce cigars from the Turkish and Cuban tobacco with Fon-Secia license. These experts carried out researches in Pazar county of Rize, Akcaabat county of Trabzon, Adana and Ceyhan county of Adana where the tobacco for cigars will be raised. The experts foresaw that these regions were appropriate for the raising of tobacco for cigars.''

    Mehmet Akbay stated that they will establish a company named 'TEKA' having three million US dollars capital with Cuba.

    Noting that the TEKEL will share in the company with one million 350 thousand US dollars, Akbay said, ''in the first and second year of the partnership, the cigars will be produced by only the Cuban tobacco. The cigars, which will be produced by the Turkish-Cubar tobacco, will be put on the market by the third year of the partnership.''
