  • [01] ''MURAT OPERATION'' UNDERWAY IN THE REGION

    DIYARBAKIR, May 2 (A.A) - The number of terrorists rendered ineffective during ''Murat Operation'', which is the biggest operation within the country, reached to 63. Security forces killed five other terrorists in a clash near southeastern Sirnak province on Saturday morning.

    ''Murat Operation'' started in Diyarbakir-Bingol-Mus triangle on April 26, is underway without intervals with the support of war planes and Cobra helicopters.

    Security forces killed eight more terrorists on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Thus, the number of terrorists rendered ineffective from the start of the operation reached to 63.

    Meanwhile, it was reported that a group of terrorists who infiltrated to Turkey from Iraq for terrorist activities were squeezed in Cudi mountain region of Sirnak and in Hezil valley. Four terrorists were killed in the operation here.

    A terrorists from the separatist organization surrendered to security forces in southeastern Siirt province.

    Murat Operation and other operations in Sirnak region are underway without intervals.

    [02] BOMB ATTACK ON POLICE STATION

    ISTANBUL, May 2 (A.A) - Unidenfied assailants tossed a bomb to the wall of the Haskoy Police Station's garden in Istanbul on Friday evening causing slight damage. There are no reported casualities or wounded ones in the attack.

    The incident happened when three assailiants, one of them woman, came in front of Haskoy Police Station at 21:00 pm and threw bomb.

    The device exploded causing slight damage. The assailants fled with a car.

    Police officials said efforts are underway to capture the assailants.

    [03] BARNER, NEW ISRAELI AMBASSADOR TO ANKARA: ''ARAB WORLD SHOULD NOT FEEL CONCERN OVER TURKISH-ISRAELI COOPERATION''

    ISTANBUL, May 2 (A.A) - Uri Barner, Israel's new Ambassador to Ankara said on Saturday that Turkish-Israeli relations will continue to improve in the future adding that there was no need for Arab world to express concern over this cooperation.

    Barner, currently in Istanbul to participate in ''New Atlantic Initiative'' meeting told A.A reporter that Arab countries reacted to Turkish-Israeli relations adding that ''there is no need for this concern because these relations are carried out mutual benefits and do not have objectives forwarded to a third country.''

    Noting that they have plans to further improve Turkish-Israeli relations, Barner said reciprocal visits will increase in the coming term to this end.

    Recalling that Israeli Trade and Industry Minister earlier visited Turkey, Barner said trade volume between the two countries will be increased to one billion dollars from 650 million dollars in the next one or 1.5 years.

    Barner also pointed out that cooperation between the two countries in medical field will be increased, adding that medicial equipment exchange is planned between the two countries.

    Noting that cooperation in academic field was also foreseen, Barner said universities of the two countries will exchange professors to this end.

    Barner said he will present a letter of confidence to President Suleyman Demirel within this week and will officially start his duty after this.

    [04] ANDICAN, STATE MINISTER, DUE TO VISIT TATARSTAN

    ANKARA, May 2 (A.A) - Ahat Andican, Minister of State, will visit Tatarstan between May 4 and 7, it was reported on Friday.

    State Ministry statement said Andican will be the official guest of Farid Mehammet Sin, Tatarstan's Prime Minister. Andican will be accompanied by a delegation including businessmen.

    This visit of Andican will be the first official visit between the two countries in ministry level.

    [05] MODERATE QUAKE SHAKES EASTERN ERZURUM PROVINCE

    ERZURUM, May 2 (A.A) - A moderate earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter Scale shook Pasinler and Horasan townships in eastern Erzurum province on Friday injuring two people and destroying 15 houses to collapse in the village of Koprukoy.

    Ataturk University Earthquake Research Center officials said the epicenter of the quake which happened on 16:54 (1345 GMT) was the Pasinler and Horasan townships of Erzurum.

    The injured, a mother and her 5-year-old son, were reported in stable condition.

    Erzurum lies 900 kilometers (540 miles) east of the capital Ankara.

    [06] SEZGIN, DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER: ''ALLOWANCE OF GREECE TO SEPARATIST TERRORIST PKK TO OPEN BUREAU CONTRADICTS WITH NEIGHBORHOOD, FRIENDSHIP AND ALLIANCE''

    BALIKESIR, May 2 (A.A) - Ismet Sezgin, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister said on Friday that the allowance of Greece to separatist terrorist PKK organization to open bureau in this country contradicted with neighborhood, friendship and alliance.

    Speaking to reporters during his meeting with Alaatin Yuksel, Balikesir Governor, Sezgin said this attitude of Greece, which is a member of NATO attributing importance to struggle against terrorism, contradicts with morals.

    Sezgin said he would voice this attitude of Greece during Defense Ministers meeting of NATO which will take place in Rhodos between May 10 and 11.

    Stressing that ''Murat Operation'' launched to eradicate separatist terrorist organization was carried out successfully, Sezgin said Turkish Armed Forces launch great efforts to this end.

    Sezgin stressed that Turkish Armed Forces may enter to Northern Iraq if necessary within the framework of the operation.

    [07] MEMBERS OF HARMONIZATION COMMISSION DUE TO FRANCE AND GERMANY

    ANKARA, May 2 (A.A) - A delegation, headed by Hasan Korkmazcan, Chairman of Harmonization Commission between the parties of the Parliament, will go to France on May 3 and will proceed to Germany on May 6 to search for voting facilities of Turkish citizens living abroad.

    The delegation is scheduled to hold contacts with Parliament administrators, friendship group members and Turkish associations administrators during the meeting. The delegation will also get information about the election systems in France and in Germany.

    Korkmazcan will brief about the studies of the commission and the visit before their departure for France.

    [08] JORDANIAN CROWN PRINCE HASAN IN ANKARA

    ANKARA, May 2 (A.A) - Jordanian Crown Prince Hasan Bin Tallal arrived in Ankara on Saturday to hold a meeting with President Suleyman Demirel and to participate in ''New Atlantic Initiative'' meeting.

    Speaking at his arrival Prince Hasan said Middle East Economic Conference could be staged in Turkey depending on the economic development of Turkey and that cooperation could take place with the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC) to this end.

    Prince Hasan will proceed to Istanbul after meeting President Demirel to participate in ''New Atlantic Initiative'' meeting.

    [09] MINISTER OF STATE KARA DUE TO CHINA AND JAPAN

    ANKARA, May 2 (A.A) - Burhan Kara, Minister of State, will go to China and Japan to hold official contacts and meetings, it was reported on Saturday.

    State Ministry written statement said Kara is scheduled to meet Chinese and Japanese transportation ministers and will hold observations in harbours.

    Kara will meet Huang Zehn Dong, Chinese Transportation Minister, Huang Pinktao, Chinese State and Ship Construction Comapany Chairman, Chen Zhonghiao, Shipping Chairman and will take up improvement of activities in maritime field, joint ship construction and exchange of training and expert education.

    Kara and the accompanying delegation is expected to return to Turkey on May 12, after wrapping up contacts in Japan.
