    Semdin Sakik, second name of the separatist terrorist organization was caught with an operation called ''bat'' and was brought to Turkey.

    Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl will meet in Salzbourg in April 24 during European Democratic Union (EDU) meeting.

    ASSAILANTS OF THE BOMB ATTACK IN SULTANAHMET CAUGHT
    Two of the terrorists, who were responsible for the bomb attack in Sultanahmet district in Istanbul, were caught. Nine people, three of them foreigners, were wounded during the attack. It was revealed that four of the terrorists fled to Aegean Izmir province.

    Ismail Hakki Karadayi, Chief of General Staff, said his visit to Baku did not have a specific aim. Karadayi said they were faithful to Baku-Ceyhan project for the exportation of Caspian oil.

    Islam Kerimov, Uzbek President, said every country wanted to see a state behind itself, adding that Turkey was the state for Uzbekistan. He said Turkey's stability was very important for them. ''We will be wounded if there is not stability in Turkey,'' he added.

    TALKS START WITH IMF
    Gunes Taner, State Minister and an economy delegation will go to the US on Tuesday to participate in development committee meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF).

    [02] EARTHQUAKE SHAKES EASTERN ERZURUM PROVINCE

    ERZURUM, April 14 (A.A) - An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the richter scale shook Eastern Erzurum province on Monday evening at 22:58 p.m.

    Kandilli Observatory officials told A.A correspondent that the epicenter of the quake was eastern Erzurum province and its surroundings.

    There are no reported casualities or financial damage after the quake.

    [03] PRESIDENTIAL SUMMIT OF TURKEY BULGARIA AND ROMANIA

    ANKARA, April 14 (A.A) - Petar Stoyanov, Bulgarian President and Emil Constantinescu, the Romanian President will come to southern Antalya province as the official guest of President Suleyman Demirel to participate in Presidential Summit of Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania between April 16 and 17.

    Foreign Ministry statement said the first of the tripartite summit had taken place in Varna city in Bulgaria in October 1997 and the second one will be hosted by Turkey. Presidents are expected to take up regional issues and exchange views on issues concerning three countries.

    Attributing to the importance of the meeting the statement said ''Turkey is very pleased to host the meeting which confirmed the willingness to improve cooperation and solidarity among the countries of the Balkans, Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania.''

    [04] TASAR, MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND VILLAGE AFFAIRS IN THE US

    ANKARA, April 14 (A.A) - Mustafa Tasar, Minister of Agriculture and Village Affairs currently in the US to hold several contacts and observations called on the US companies to invest in the Southeastern Project (GAP) region.

    A written statement of Agriculture and Village Affairs Ministry said Tasar held a bilateral meeting with Dan Glickman, the US Minister of Agriculture and Village Affairs.

    Speaking during the meeting, Tasar said the products which will be gained from GAP region could easily be exported to Central Asia, Caucasian Republics and the Middle East countries.

    Recalling that Turkey and the US were ally countries, Tasar said that a Scientific and Technical Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding signed between Turkey and the US in Agriculture field in 1995 was an important step to improve relations.

    Stressing that they were willing to further improve existing relations between the two countries in agricultural field, Tasar said he wanted techniques, technologies, information and experience of the US in agricultural field to be transferred to Turkey.

    He later invited the US agriculture minister to Turkey.

    [05] BASESGIOGLU, MINISTER OF INTERIOR: ''GOVERNMENT HAD INFORMATION ON EVERY STAGE OF THE OPERATION TO CAPTURE SEMDIN SAKIK AND HIS BROTHER''

    ANKARA, April 14 (A.A) - Murat Basesgioglu, Interior Minister speaking about the capture of the separatist terrorist Semdin Sakik and his brother Hasan Sakik, said ''the government had information about every stage.''

    Responding to the questions of reporters after Council of Ministers meeting, Basesgioglu said Semdin and Hasan Sakik were caught by an operation staged by Special Forces Commandership teams of the General Staff, adding that an investigation was underway about these people.

    When asked if there was an agreement with Barzani on the issue, Basesgioglu said they wanted Sakik to be given when he was first caught yet when this was not seen appropriate they decided to realize this operation.

    Responding to a question if the government was informed about it, Interior Minister said the government had information about every stage of the operation.

    Meanwhile, Bulent Ecevit, Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister said they were informed about the operation staged by General Staff to capture Sakik and his brother.

    [06] FOREIGN MINISTER CEM'S VISIT TO BOSNIA - CEM: ''VIOLENCE IMPLEMENTED AGAINST THE BOSNIAN MOSLEMS IS THE DISGRACE OF OUR CENTURY''

    ANKARA, April 14 (A.A) - Ismail Cem, the Foreign Minister, said on Tuesday that the violence implemented against the Bosnian Moslems due to their religious beliefs was the disgrace of the 20th century.

    Speaking before leaving for Bosnia-Herzegovina within the framework of an official visit, Cem said that Turkey carried out a planned Balkan policy.

    Noting that Turkey had increased her effectiveness for bringing peace and understanding to the Balkans, he added that within this framework he had held closer contacts with the Balkan countries in the past eight months.

    Cem recalled that the Balkan Summit would be realized in Turkey and pointed out that the Foreign Ministers of the Balkan countries would meet in June and the Heads of States and governments would meet in October.

    Cem noted that Turkey was closely interested in the Kosovo problem, adding, ''Turkey has expended efforts to contribute to the peaceful and just solution of the Kosovo question.''

    Stressing that the Dayton Peace Agreement should be implemented without changes to bring peace to Bosnia Herzegovina, Cem said that Turkey will always support Bosnia.

    [07] RESIGNATION FROM DSP - KARAYTUG, WHO RESIGNS FROM DSP TRANSFERS TO CHP

    ANKARA, April 14 (A.A) - Tuncay Karaytug, the Democratic Left Party (DSP) Adana Deputy resigned from his party on Tuesday and transferred to the Republican People's Party (CHP).

    With the resignation of Karaytug, the number of DSP deputies reduced to 62 in Parliament.

    Meanwhile, the number of deputies in the CHP increased to 56.

    [08] SUCCESS OF TURKISH SCIENTISTS - TURKISH SCIENTISTS PUT AN END TO RADIO- CARBON TECHNOLOGY USED SINCE 1949

    CHICAGO, April 14 (A.A) - The Turkish scientists recorded another success in the Argon laboratories of the US Department of Energy.

    Aslihan Yener, an Archaeology Professor at Chicago University and Esen Ercan Alp, a Physicist, analyzed a five thousand year old metal sculpture with an x-ray instrument and investigated what kind of technology was used in its making.

    According to the news report issued by the Chicago Tribune newspaper, the metal sculpture in question was found around southern Antakya Province in 1936 by Robert and Linda Braidwood, Archaeology experts at the Oriental Institute. The sculpture was insured for 500,000 dollars before it was analyzed.

    Esen Ercan Alp said that the metal of sculpture was made up of tin coated bronze composed of three women and three men figures, adding that tin technology, which has a 5,000 year old past, was first used in Anatolia.

    Alp said one of the broken legs of the metal sculpture, thought to be used in a ceremony, was repaired 5,000 years ago by welding and bronze with arsenic was used when mending it.

    Esen Ercan Alp said their aim was to promote to the world the archaeological potential in Turkey, adding that new excavations should take place in the region where this metal sculpture was found.

    YILMAZ VISITS UZBEKISTAN
    Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz and the Turkish delegation accompanying him are continuing with their contacts in Uzbekistan. After the meetings between Yilmaz and the Uzbek President Islam Kerimov and the Turkish and Uzbek delegations, a joint declaration was issued. Yilmaz and Kerimov signed four agreements for the training of border personnel, for the prevention of smuggling of historical and cultural assets, the protection of copyrights and for more cooperation in economy and trade. /Sabah/Milliyet/

    TANER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE IMF MEETING
    Gunes Taner, the Minister of State and a delegation accompanying him is going today to the United States where they will participate in the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. In their contacts with the IMF officials, a survey will be made on the latest results of Turkish economic policy. A spokesman from the Turkish delegation declared that a more detailed inspection will be made on April 27, when the IMF representatives will be in Ankara for an annual assessment. /Hurriyet/

    KARADAYI IN AZERBAIJAN
    The Chief of General Staff Ismail Hakki Karadayi yesterday went to Azerbaijan. Responding to suggestions that his visit was unexpected and whether the Army had any concern over the provocative remarks targeted at Azerbaijan by Armenia's newly elected president Robert Kocarian, Karadayi said it was a ''normal visit'' to a friendly country and that matters of that kind were the business of politicians. He also answered a question on the security of the proposed Baku-Ceyhan pipeline, saying that this problem should be solved through the cooperation of all the parties involved. /Hurriyet/

    ERSUMER RECEIVES US DELEGATION
    Cumhur Ersumer, the Turkish Minister for Energy and Natural Resources received yesterday a US delegation headed by Bob Livingston, the Chairman of the Allocations Committee of the US House of Representatives. Following a briefing, during which information was given to the US delegation regarding Turkey's future energy demands, a press conference was held jointly by Yurdakul Yigitguden, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, and Livingston. Providing information regarding the meeting, Yigitguden said that they had gathered to exchange views on proposed energy cooperation between Turkey and the US. /Milliyet/

    AGRICULTURE MINISTER TOURING AMERICAN FARMS
    Mustafa Tasar, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, is continuing his US visit aimed at having contacts with American officials on agricultural matters such as an agricultural products stock exchange, and cooperation between the two countries in agriculture and animal husbandry. At the beginning of his trip, Tasar visited several farms and organizations having enormous production capacities. Before participating in a meeting on ''job opportunities in agriculture'', he met with his American counterpart, Dan Clickman in Washington. He is scheduled to leave Washington today for New York where he will stay until his return on the 16th of April. /Hurriyet/

    SYNDICATION CREDIT FOR DEMIRBANK
    Demirbank has received one-year term syndication credits worth 150 million US dollars under the leadership of the Bank of America and Bayerische Vereinsbank and with the participation of 26 international banks. Thus, Demirbank now has foreign credits worth 220 million US dollars, including a previous credit facility worth 70 million US dollars, which it received in March. /Milliyet/

    NEWSWEEK MAGAZINE DEVOTES WIDE COVERAGE TO ATATURK
    Itogi, published by the US Newsweek magazine in Russian, gave wide coverage of Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, in its latest issue. The magazine promoted Ataturk's accomplishments with the title of ''important figures of the century''. It also noted that Ataturk established the ''Republic of Turkey'' instead of an empire, by setting up a secular state and removing the Caliphate. /Milliyet/

    INTEREST RATES FALL, STOCK EXCHANGE RISES
    The Turkish stock exchange reached 3,645 points yesterday with a daily transaction volume of 83.4 trillion Turkish Liras (TL). Meanwhile, interest rates fell two points on the average. Developments stemming from new economic optimism, which continued during the nine-day holiday, positively affected the markets. /Sabah/

    TWO PKK TERRORISTS SEIZED
    Two terrorists of the PKK terrorist organization who left a bomb in a park at Sultanahmet, Istanbul on April 12 and wounded nine civilians, three of whom were tourists, have been captured by the security forces. Questioned at the Department for the Struggle Against Terrorism, the PKK terrorists confessed that they had been trained in the PKK camps in Greece for three months and that they had come to Turkey just a day before the incident. /Sabah/Cumhuriyet/

    SEMDIN SAKIK BROUGHT TO TURKEY
    Semdin Sakik, sheltered by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) after escaping from the PKK terrorist organization, has been arrested and brought to Turkey by a special team of the Office of the Chief of General Staff. Before the operation, the Turkish Foreign Ministry and National Intelligence Organization (MIT) officials asked Mesut Barzani, the leader of the KDP to hand Sakik over to Turkey. However, Barzani refused, claiming that it would put him into a difficult position in response to the factions in the troubled region of Northern Iraq. /Sabah/ Cumhuriyet/ Milliyet/

    EARTHQUAKE IN SOUTHEAST ANATOLIA
    An earthquake measuring five on the Richter Scale was recorded yesterday in the southeast regions of Turkey. The epicentre of the quake was Karliova County of Bingol Province. Fifteen people had been reported injured.

    Meanwhile a second earthquake was reported in Erzurum with an intensity of 4.1 points. Although no casualties have been reported, property damage is severe. /Sabah/ Milliyet/

    POLICE WEEK CELEBRATED
    The 153rd anniversary of the Security Administration was celebrated yesterday. At the opening ceremony taking place in front of the General Directorate of Security, students from the Police Academy pledged their allegience to the Republic and Ataturk, the founder of the Republic. Necati Bilican, the General Director of Security, said that the organization was now more successful in the services it was rendering throughout the country when compared to recent years and added that it would continue to serve the nation as it was expected to do./Hurriyet/

    [11] INTERESTING PROPOSAL FROM CHILE - CHILEAN HISTORY INSTITUTION OFFICIALS PROPOSE TO THE TTK TO WORK JOINTLY TO SEARCH FOR TURKISH ASSETS IN THEIR COUNTRY

    ANKARA, April 14 (A.A) - Officials of the Chilean History Institution proposed to the Turkish Historical Society (TTK) to work jointly to research the Turkish presence in their country, it was reported on Tuesday.

    Yusuf Halacoglu, Chairman of the TTK, responding to the questions of the A.A correspondent said an interesting proposal came from Chile to work jointly, adding that a similar proposal came from Cuba.

    Halacoglu said that the Chilean officials told them that there were people using Turkish names in their countries and that they wanted them to be researched.

    ''There are the grandchildren of the citizens of the Ottoman Empire in this country. Most of these people are composed of those who left the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century. We will research the culture these people created in Chile. Maybe these studies will reveal important information,'' he added.

    Halacoglu said that Chile prepared a draft protocol to be signed with them, adding that they will sign it soon.

    [12] SULTANSAZLIGI MEETS ITS GUESTS - THERE IS AN ESTIMATED 700,000 BIRDS FROM 301 SPECIES IN THE REGION

    KAYSERI, April 14 (A.A) - The Sultansazligi Kus Cenneti (Bird Paradise), which is between the borders of Yesilhisar, Yahyali and Develi Counties in the central Anatolian province of Kayseri has met its guests.

    Timur Erdem, Wildlife Engineer of the National Parks at the Ministry of Forestry, responding to the questions of the A.A correspondent on the issue said the birds which migrated to warm regions from Sultansazligi Kus Cenneti had begun to return to the region as the weather gets warm.

    Erdem said that the region was continuously under control, adding that there was no danger for the birds due to water shortage and any implementation that threatens the Sultansazligi.

    [13] US SECRETARY OF DEFENSE COHEN DUE IN TURKEY

    WASHINGTON, April 14 (A.A) - William Cohen, the US Secretary of Defense will start a tour covering five countries including Turkey. Cohen will come to Turkey between April 17 and 18, it was reported on Tuesday.

    The Pentagon gave a briefing about the visit of Cohen and said that he is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz, Ismet Sezgin, the Minister of Defense, and officials of the General Staff. It also said there was a possibility that the US Secretary of Defense may meet with Ismail Cem, the Foreign Minister.

    The Pentagon officials said that Turkey has the role of a ''bridge'' and that it also has a very high strategic value.

    Cohen, who will visit the Incirlik Airbase, will discuss the modernization of the Turkish Armed Forces, Turkish-Greek relations, the Aegean and Cyprus issues during the meetings with Turkish officials. The Pentagon officials stressed that they supported the initiatives of Javier Solana, the NATO Secretary General, to take confidence-building measures to reduce tension in the Aegean.

    Officials said that the ''Northern Watch'' air control operation, carried out to control the no-flight zone in the northern part of Iraq, may come onto the agenda and emphasized that the Turkish government extended support for this operation. The Pentagon officials said they don't believe that a problem will erupt that will extend the operation.

    During the contacts of Cohen in Ankara, the future of NATO and bilateral military relations will be reviewed from all aspects.

    Cohen will proceed to Jordan, Egypt, Israel and Greece after concluding contacts in Turkey on April 18 and return to the United States next Tuesday.

    Military and strategic issues will be discussed during Cohen's meetings.

    Cohen will discuss the 40 F-15E type war planes in Athens which Greece wanted to purchase. Realization of the purchase in question will spoil the military balance in the Aegean. The Boeing Company is participating in the international tender which Greece opened for the F-15E type planes.

    [14] 702 KILOMETER POWER LINE FROM KEBAN TO GEORGIA

    ERZURUM, April 14 (A.A) - The Ozluce-Erzurum portion of a power line which will extend from Keban to Georgia was completed and the portion between Horasan and Erzurum will be concluded during this year and open for operations, it was reported on Tuesday.

    Abdulkadir Degirmencioglu, the Director of the Turkish Electricity Production Company 10th group told the A.A correspondent that an important step could be taken with the 702 km power line project that will extend from Keban to Georgia.

    Degirmencioglu said that the 380-kilowatts of energy will end the electric shortages in the provinces in the region.

    Degirmencioglu said that the project between Horasan-Kars-Georgia was still in the implementation stage, adding that a Main Transformer Substation will be established in Kars. ''The project which is being supported by a World Bank loan has an estimated cost of 16 trillion Turkish Liras,'' he added.

    [15] NEW HOPE FOR THE BAKU-CEYHAN OIL PIPELINE

    NEW YORK, April 14 (A.A) - The chances for the Baku-Ceyhan pipeline increases as the Baku-Soupsa pipeline, which was thought to be used for the transport of the Caspian oil to the international markets, is too old and has an insufficient capacity.

    Refik Abdulayev, the Chief Adviser of the Azerbaijani national oil company SOCAR, speaking to the Wall Street Journal newspaper said that the Baku- Soupsa oil pipeline, which remained from the period of the Soviet Union, is impossible for the transport of a production that will reach up to 600,000 barrels, adding that the construction of a new pipeline was on the agenda.

    John H. Works, the Deputy Director of the ABN-Ambro Bank, which financed the project, told the same newspaper that ''I guess a new pipeline will extend towards the west and the oil will be transported via Turkey.''

    Installation of the line in question will cost 590 million US dollars.

    Sources defend that the capacity of the pipeline won't be more than 100,000 barrels if the Baku-Soupsa line is preferred to the Baku-Ceyhan.

    An International Consortium, composed of 12 oil companies as well as SOCAR, will decide on the route of the pipeline. The decision may be made at the end of this month.

    [16] TURKEY, ACCORDING TO THE VIEWS OF THE IMF...

    WASHINGTON, D.C., April 14 (A.A) - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said that they expected the growth rate to slow down in the economy in the short-term in Turkey as struggle against inflation continues, adding that the economy will be strenghtened in the medium-term.

    A report on the ''World Economic Scenery'' issued by the IMF said that the Turkish government increased efforts to reduce inflation, but added that they expected the growth rate to slow down in 1998.

    The IMF report said, ''as the large financial deficits continue in Turkey, the economy and banking system remains weak in response to changes in the market.''

    The report, which was published before the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings, scheduled to take place on Thursday, said that a reduction of the economic growth in the Middle East and European Region stemmed from the developments in Turkey and Iran.

    Meanwhile, a Turkish delegation, headed by Gunes Taner, Minister of State, is expected to arrive in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday to participate in the meetings.

    Taner is expected to meet with Michel Camdesus and Joseph Wolfenshon Presidents, respectively, of the IMF and the World Bank.

    [17] WASHINGTON GIVES POSITIVE SIGNALS FOR TURKEY'S PROJECT TO IMPROVE ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND FINANCING OF THE PROJECT

    WASHINGTON, D.C. April 14 (A.A) - The US Administration on Tuesday gave positive signals to Mustafa Tasar, the Minister of Agriculture and Village Affairs on Turkey's Project to Improve Animal Husbandry.

    Tasar met with Dan Glickman, the US Secretary of Agriculture in Washington, D.C., before proceeding to New York.

    Briefing about his contacts Tasar said that, Turkey's Project to Improve Animal Husbandry, a five year project at a cost of 1.3 billion US dollars was discussed during his meeting with Glickman.

    Tasar said that he conveyed the targets of the projects and that with the realization of the project, both of these countries, with their private sectors, may make exports to the Middle East and Central Asian countries.

    Tasar said that 270 million US dollars was required this year within the framework of this project, adding that contacts with the US will continue with credit conditions.

    He said that employment will be created for another 50,000 families when the project takes effect, adding that a total of 156 trillion Turkish Lira contribution will be made to the economy of the country.

    Tasar is expected to return to Turkey at the weekend.

    [18] TURKEY IN BRIEF - APRIL 14, 1998

    RIZE - A total of 50 hectares of green land was burned down during the forest fires which occurred in Northern Rize Province and its counties in the last two days, it was reported on Tuesday. Two people died while trying to extinguish the fires.

    Erdal Ata, the Mayor of Rize, said in a press briefing that the fires were still continuing in Findikli and Ardesen Counties and the other fires had been taken under control.

    Meanwhile, a total of 68 forest fires occurred during the last religious holiday, destroying nearly 200 hectares of forested land.

    GAZIANTEP - Olcay Unver, the Chairman of the Prime Ministry's Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) Directorate of Regional Development, said on Tuesday that the world was impressed with the GAP's unique development.

    Unver said in his article published in the GAP Magazine that there had been an evident change in the point of view of the foreign countries and organizations and the ''biased'' and ''suspicious'' interest of some circles had changed into a ''desire for cooperation'' since the ''human dimension'' and ''sustainability'' approach had started to emerge within the improvement and development process of the GAP.

    ''We are implementing a project with the UN Development Programme consisting of a total of 29 sub-projects. Also, the World Bank is preparing to contribute to the projects regarding the development of the infrastructures of the urban and rural areas in the GAP. We have reached an agreement to improve and develop the joint projects with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization,'' Unver said.

    ANKARA - Admiral Salim Dervisoglu, the Commander in Chief of the Naval Forces, received on Tuesday Admiral Traian Atanasiu, the f Commander in Chief of the Romanian Naval Forces, who is paying an official visit to Turkey.

    Admiral Dervisoglu said in the meeting that they want to further improve the relations between the naval forces of the two countries in personnel training and exercises.

    The guest commander Admiral Atanasiu said that the high-level visits would contribute to the relations between the naval forces of the two countries.

    ANKARA - The Ministry of Finance will give permission to four private banks to collect taxes, it was reported on Tuesday.

    The General Directorate of Income is collecting taxes through the Ziraat, Halkbank, Emlakbank, Vakifbank, Is Bank, Yapı Kredi Bank, Garanti Bank, Toprakbank, Akbank and Pamukbank.

    The General Directorate of Income gave permission to the Kocbank, Sumerbank, Sekerbank and Osmanli Bank to collect taxes. A ''tax collection protocol'' will be signed with these four banks on April 16.

    ANKARA - The principles and procedures related to the implementation of the ''protocol regarding the definition of the conception of the origin of goods and methods of administrative cooperation'', which was included in the Free Trade Agreement signed between Turkey and Hungary, were specified, it was reported on Tuesday.

    The regulation for the free-circulation certificates regarding the Free Trade Agreement between Turkey and Hungary was published in the Official Gazette the same day.

    The decisions of the regulation will be valid retroactive to April 1, 1998, and will be implemented by the Minister responsible for the Undersecretariat of Customs.

    IZMIR - Dr. Gokalp Mustecaplioglu, the General Director of the Irenbe Medical Center in Izmir, said on Tuesday that the studies for putting into service in May the first in-virto-fertilization hospital in the Aegean region were continuing.

    Mustecaplioglu told the A.A correspondent that their target was to apply in- virto-fertilization for nearly 200 patients annually.

    [19] TOURISM FORUM '98 - PRESIDENT DEMIREL: ''WE EXPECT 12 MILLION TOURISTS AND 10 BILLION US DOLLARS IN TOURISM INCOME IN 1998''

    ISTANBUL, April 14 (A.A) - President Suleyman Demirel said on Tuesday that ''we expect 12 million tourists and 10 billion US dollars in income in 1998.''
    Addressing a speech at the opening of the ''Tourism Forum '98,'' President Demirel stated, ''we are ready to present our experience and natural beauties to the world. In 1997, 10 million tourists visited Turkey and we earned eight billion US dollars in tourism income. The level we reached today proves that we are reaching our target in the tourism sector, which is 1.5 million beds, 25 million tourists and 15 billion US dollars in income.''

    ''Turkey has a big tourism potential which she needs to develop. The financial problems of projects, which have priority, should be solved and these should enter into force as soon as possible. Turkey is constructing new airports, new ports, new hospitals and she also attributes great importance to making her people become more conscious of tourism. Besides that, tourism is one of the most effective tools for improving our country's image abroad,'' Demirel added.

    Sending a message to the Tourism Forum '98, Prime Minister Mesut Yılmaz said, ''I believe that our efforts aimed at increasing the role of the tourism sector, which is developing quickly, in the economy of the country will conclude in a successful way with the support of our people working in the tourism sector.''

    [20] DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER AND NATIONAL DEFENSE MINISTER SEZGIN: ''SAKIK IS IN DIYARBAKIR, HE WILL BE DELIVERED TO THE POLICE AND THE POLICE WILL BRING HIM TO BE TRIED''

    ANKARA/DIYARBAKIR, April 14 (A.A) - Ismet Sezgin, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense said on Tuesday that Semdin Sakık and his brother who are among the leading members of the separatist terrorist PKK organization, are in Diyarbakır, adding that ''they will be delivered to the police and police will bring them to be tried.''

    Responding to the questions of journalists, Sezgin stated that ''all the members of the government don't need to know everything. These kinds of operations have to be staged secretly.''

    When asked ''if these kinds of operations were staged by getting the permission of the Prime Minister up until now,'' Sezgin said that ''everthing is done within the framework of law. There is no change in anything.''

    Responding to another question on whether or not Turkey has received any reactions about the operation from foreign countries, Sezgin said ''why should we receive any reactions? What can anybody say about the capture of a murderer, who is trying to destroy the Republic of Turkey and who has killed thousands of people?''

    Sezgin stated that only two members of the separatist terrorist PKK organization, namely Semdin Sakık and his brother were brought to Turkey.

    Responding to another question concerning the reaction of Mesut Barzani, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) about the operation, Sezgin pointed out, ''we don't expect Barzani to deliver somebody to Turkey who took shelter in the KDP, this would be contrary to their customs. As you see, the operation was staged in another location when Sakık left the KDP camp.''

    Meanwhile, Nihat Cakar, the Chief Prosecutor of Diyarbakır State Security Court told the A.A correspondent that Semdin Sakık, who is known as ''Fingerless Zeki'' will be tried just like other suspects, but no preparations have been made at the moment concerning this issue.

    [21] TURKISH-BULGARIAN JEC MEETING TO START IN SOFIA ON WEDNESDAY

    ANKARA, April 14 (A.A) - The 13th term Turkish-Bulgarian Economic and Technical Cooperation Committee (JEC) meeting will start on Wednesday in Sofia, it was reported on Tuesday.

    The Turkish delegation will be headed by Isın Celebi, the Minister of State and Valentin Vasilev, the the Bulgarian Minister of Trade and Tourism will head the Bulgarian delegation during the JEC meeting which will last for two days.

    The Undersecretary of Foreign Trade said in a written statement that the meeting aims to improve economic cooperation between the two countries and issues like opening a branch in Sofia of the Ziraat Bank, relations in standartization and improvement of cooperation between the free zones will all be discussed.

    The statement stressed that the two delegations will also discuss regional cooperation projects such as the Western-Eastern Motorway, which is foreseen to be constructed in the Balkans.

    The 13th Turkish-Bulgarian JEC Protocol will be signed on April 16 in Sofia at the end of the meetings.

    [22] TURKEY-US - MINISTER OF STATE TANER WILL JOIN THE MEETINGS OF THE IMF AND THE WORLD BANK

    ISTANBUL, April 14 (A.A) - Gunes Taner, the Minister of State, said on Tuesday that inflation will start to decrease this month and continue to decrease on the following months.

    Addressing the journalists at the Ataturk Airport before his departure for the US to join the ''Spring Meetings'' of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, Taner said that the main subject of the meetings is ''the collapse of the economies of the Far Eastern countries and its influence on the world markets''.

    Taner said that he will give information to the officials from the IMF and the World Bank about the latest developments in the Turkish economy. He said that his meeting will focus on the Turkey's struggle against inflation and the necessary reforms for this struggle. He also added, ''the last nine months were very difficult, but our attempts have started to bear fruit. Our government will overcome the economic problems.''

    [23] HEZBOULLAH OPERATION IN DIYARBAKIR - 100 MEMBERS OF HIZBULLAH CAPTURED

    DIYARBAKIR, April 14 (A.A) - Police captured 100 members of the illegal Hezboullah organization, it was reported on Tuesday.

    Responding to the questions of the A.A correspondent, Gaffar Okkan, the Diyarbakır Chief of Security said that 40 members among these 100 people were arrested.

    Recalling that 1,000 members of this illegal organization are wanted in Diyarbakır and in its counties, Okkan added that ''operations are underway to capture the rest of the wanted members of the Hezboullah. Three people were arrested on Monday night. The ones who were arrested, will be tried after the interrogations.''
