US White House Statement -- Terrorist Attack in Egypt (96-04-18)

Miscellaneous Directory

From: http://www.whitehouse.gov

THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release
April 18, 1996

STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

Terrorist Attack in Egypt

The United States strongly condemns the terrorist attack against innocent Greek tourists in Egypt today. The President is conveying his sympathy to President Mubarak and Prime Minister Simitis and, on behalf of all Americans, has offered his condolences to the families of the victims.

These outrages are a tragic reminder that even as those who have chosen the path of peace move boldly forward, there remain desperate individuals determined to hold back progress toward reconciliation and a better future. The murder and wounding of Greek tourists and Egyptian citizens in Cairo underscores the need for all nations both to condemn terrorism and to take purposeful actions to end it. The United States will continue to stand with those throughout the world who confront this terrible scourge.
