Position for: FG IV - Project Officer - Scientific

As the science and knowledge service of the Commission, the mission of the Joint Research Centre is to support EU policies with independent evidence throughout the whole policy cycle.

This vacancy is within the Energy Security, Distribution, and Markets Unit of Directorate C - Energy, Transport & Climate, with a mission of providing scientific and technical support to the European Green Deal and the Energy Union in general. Our staff (about 50) are located in Petten (NL) and Ispra (IT).

The Unit is looking for a competent candidate whose main tasks will be to:

- collect data concerning gas and electricity demand and prices in the EU and other international markets and hubs,

- model the evolution of gas and electricity demand and prices and their interactions with relevant factors inside and outside the EU, and to

- contribute to other research projects of our Unit concerning energy security and energy markets, with an emphasis on developing cost-benefit analysis methodologies for evaluating energy infrastructure investments, e.g. in the context of support mechanisms for electricity, natural gas, carbon-dioxide network, and smart grids project proposals.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should have a degree in a relevant scientific area or in engineering or economics, together with a minimum of 3 years of research experience or a Ph.D.

A good understanding of the EU energy system, particularly gas and/or electricity, is essential. Experience in one or more of the following fields is highly desirable: application of data science to energy systems or markets, statistics, econometrics, energy economics, cost-benefit analysis, modelling of energy networks, and programming.

The candidate must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary team, and have good communication skills with experts and non-experts.

This position offers a number of varied and interesting tasks in a friendly, multi-disciplinary and well integrated team to a motivated, flexible and reliable colleague.

Very good command of English (B2 level minimum) is essential.
