Research Fellowship in Sustainable Development/Environmental Biotechnology

A fellowship has become available at the Unit of Bioengineering, University of Louvain, Belgium for a highly motivated Ph.D. candidate or post-doctoral scientist.

Research subject:

Life cycle of new-generation polymers for sustainable development : biodegradability of thermo-malleable polycaprolactones.

Specific routes considered: Composting or anaerobic digestion (meso- and thermophilic).

Desired skills:

- (bio)chemical engineer (or microbiologist), MSc or Ph.D. with a good background in (bio)chemistry/microbiology (or engineering)

- motivated to further develop interdisciplinary skills at the interface of bioengineering, microbiology, enzymology with an emphasis on quantitative approaches

- willing to improve existing tests of quality assurance for degradability of solid wastes

- willing to develop novel bioreactor designs and optimise their performance

This area should be attractive for young scientists who want to have an impact in environmental science and protection. Interested candidates are asked to send their CV as soon as possible (by e-mail), because this position MUST be filled in the next six weeks.

Funding:

36 months at very competitive salary and benefits.
