There is a PhD position available for research within the project "Applications of wait/lock-free protocols to real-time systems", whose aim is to develop and study new synchronization protocols and concurrent data structures and to evaluate them in the context of real-time systems at the operating system kernel level.

The position is available in early 1999 and is funded by the ARTES network of academic and industrial groups, which focuses on research on Real-Time Systems (www.docs.uu.se/artes), in one of the premier countries in research and development in this topic.

The successful candidate will also get involved in comprehensive collaborative relationship with - the industrial nodes of the network (www.docs.uu.se/artes); - the group of Prof. Hans Hansson at the Center for Real-Time Systems, at MdH at Västerås (http://www.idt.mdh.se/cus/ and http://www.idt.mdh.se/personal/han/); and with - the real-time systems group at the Department of Computer Systems at Uppsala Un. (www.docs.uu.se).

To apply, send to tsigas@cs.chalmers.se, preferably by December 31, 1998 - your CV, covering your experience, and giving the names and adresses of referees; - a list of courses that you have followed and the grades received; - copies of any papers you would like us to take into account.

Both English and Swedish are used as working languages in our department. As an English speaker, you will have no difficulty at work and almost no difficulty in ordinary every-day communication. Gothenburg is a pleasant, lively city, with approx. half a million inhabitants and three universities; for information about the city you can check http://www.gbg-co.se/.

If you need more information about the position, please contact Marina Papatriantafilou (ptrianta@cs.chalmers.se) or Philippas Tsigas (tsigas@cs.chalmers.se).
