Programmer/analyst position at UC, IrvineJob Opportunities Directory - Previous Article - Next ArticleFrom: "HR-Net News Distribution Manager" <dist@hri.org>PROGRAMMER /ANALYST II/III JOB NUMBER: CR 2648K The Thesaurus Linguae Graecae Project (TLG) at the University of California, Irvine is seeking a Programmer/Analyst II/III to join its team. The TLG Project is one of the largest collections of electronic text in the world containing more than 74-million words covering almost all ancient Greek literary texts from Homer to the Byzantine period. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the development of a Web-based system to structure, search and retrieve the bibliographical, lexical and textual materials comprising the TLG databank. He/she must have excellent programming skills and experience in relational databases and WWW development tools, preferably in a Unix environment. Experience or at least conceptual knowledge of text encoding methods and standards (particularly SGML/XML and Unicode) is highly desirable. Knowledge of Greek will be a plus. Minimum qualifications: BS degree (preferably in Computer Science). The University of California offers competitive salaries and an attractive benefits package. Position open until filled.
