Research positions in Applied Physics at U. of ThessalonikiJobs Directory - Previous Article - Next ArticleFrom: "HR-Net News Distribution Manager" <dist@hri.org>Originally From: logothetidis@olymp.ccf.auth.gr 1. RESEARCH FELLOW POSITION AVAILABLE IN APPLIED PHYSICS & MATERIALS SCIENCE ARISTOTLE UNIVERSITY OF THESSALONIKI One to three year position is currently available for research in experimental physics and materials science of thin films and coatings for PhD level scientist and for highly qualified M.Sc. graduates wishing to pursue doctoral level research in the area. Research is conducted at the Laboratories for Thin Film and Coating Research, aiming at investigations of fundamental issues as well as technological applications. Due to the highly interdisciplinary nature of this work, applications from qualified researchers with backgrounds in the fields of solid state physics, materials science and engineering with emphasis on Diamond, Diamond - like films and hard coatings technology are required . Ongoing work focuses on: (i) Developing/deploying novel in-situ monitoring techniques during thin film deposition with sputtering,ion-beam,e-gun and other PVD techniques. (ii) Characterization using optical spectroscopies, micro/nano mechanical techniques, electron microscopy and x-rays techniques of deposition process, growth mechanisms, and structure and properties of thin films and coatings used in optical, electronic, tribological and biomedical applications. Available instrumentation in the laboratory include DC and RF magnetron sputtering equipment with load-lock and various in-situ monitoring techniques (e.g. spectroscopic ellipsometry, SE), an UHV deposition system with various (ion beam,sputtering,e-gun,etc) PVD techniques and options for in-situ monitoring,ex-situ SE, Raman spectroscopy, Photothermal Deflection Spectroscopy, Photoluminescence, FTIR, stress measurements, nanohardness, x-rays diffraction and reflectometry and a newly developed FTIR spectroscopic ellipsometer. Moreover, collaborations with other laboratories/groups of the Solid State Division, Physics Department, such as the electron microscopy group give access to SEM,TEM, XTEM, AFM instruments, while collaboration with the Mechanics and Materials Laboratory in the School of Engineering enhances our understanding in the area of micromechanical and morphological modelling of thin film process-structure-properties relations. 2. BRITE-EURAM TRAINING GRANTS (INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH EXPERIENCE) The BRITE-EURAM Research Training Fellowships program provides bursaries for qualified post-graduate and post-doctoral trainees to receive training within the content of ongoing BRITE-EURAM project (with scopes similar to those described in (1)) at one of the partners of the project in a country other than their own. The grant is completely funded by the European Commission. The duration of a bursary is from 6 to 24 months. Application need be submitted by the canditate and the next deadline for submission is early 1997. Interested European persons (for either one or both of the above categories) should forward (preferably by fax or e-mail) their curriculum vitae and two references no later than the end of October 1996 to: Dr. Stergios Logothetidis Physics Department,Solid State Division Aristotle University of Thessaloniki,54006 Thessaloniki,GREECE Phone: + 30 31 998174 Fax: + 30 31 246484 E-mail: logothetidis@olymp.ccf.auth.gr Jobs Directory - Previous Article - Next Article |
