The Embassy of Greece

Presents

Glimpses into Ancient Athens

A Lecture by Dr. Astrid Lindenlauf, archeologist

March 14, 2007: 6:30-8:30 pm

At: The Embassy of Greece, 2217 Massachusetts Ave., NW. Washington, DC 20008.

The presentation will provide insights into the urban landscape of ancient Athens by exploring some of its well-known monuments and archaeological sites. Kerameikos, a puzzling feature of the ancient cityscape, is presented in more detail. This civic space will be analyzed as well as the topography of commemoration and the ways in which Athenians constructed and lived in their city. A well illustrated presentation with unique imagery from ancient Athens.

Dr. Astrid Lindenlauf studied classical archaeology, ancient history, and sociology in Frankfurt, Berlin, and Athens. She is currently working for the German Archaeological Institute in Athens and is a scholar at the Center for Hellenic Studies, Harvard University. Free Admission.
