We are pleased to announce a number of events that are scheduled to take place in Seattle on the weekend 23-25 of October 1998, during which Prof. Van Coufoudakis will be visiting Seattle and the University of Washington.

Dr. Coufoudakis is Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences of Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne and is one of the most eminent scholars in international relations in Southeastern Europe. He has been the director of the Indiana University Center for Global Studies and has served three terms as President of the Modern Greek Studies Association. Also served as Assistant Editor of the Journal of Political and Military Sociology and in 1984 was named Honorary Consul of the Republic of Cyprus for the State of Indiana. Prof. Coufoudakis is also the Vice Chairman of the AHEPA Educational Foundation, holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and an M.P.A. degree from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Coufoudakis is scheduled to present a lecture at UW on the afternoon of Friday, October 23rd 1998, on the subject: "Greece, Cyprus and Turkey in American Post-Cold War Security Policy: Challenges and Opportunities." Saturday, October 24th 1998, the AHEPA Juan De Fuca Chapter 177 is hosting its Officer's Installation Dinner, presenting Dr. Coufoudakis as the feature speaker of the event. The topic of his speech will be: "Seeking a Cyprus Solution: What Can Washington Do? What Can the Greek-American Community Do?" The dinner will take place at the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Small Hall. Social Hour 6:00-7:00 p.m., Dinner at 7:00 p.m. and a musical recital will follow the Dr. Coufoudakis speech and will feature Mr. Nektarios Antoniou, a young Chanter from Hellenic College in Boston who will be accompanied by Mr. Christos Govetas and Mr. Bob Beer on instruments to present a recital of songs from the Aegean, Pondos, Macedonia and Asia Minor regions of Greece. Sunday, October 25th 1998, the AHEPA Chapter will contribute to the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church's Sunday Liturgy by offering the Left and Right Psaltirion in the traditional arrangement and form without the Choir participating on that Sunday. Our visitor Mr. Nektarios Antoniou and Mr. Heraklis Panayiotides of Tacoma will be the Principal Psalters. We are delighted to present Mr. Nectarios Antoniou as the feature psalmodos, because of this youth and achievement in an area of significant cultural tradition, hoping to impress on our youth and others who are enjoying this art form. A free luncheon will be also offered at St. Demetrios after the Sunday Liturgy, as an expression of gratitude for the various contributions and help the Church has received by the attending community.

We will be delighted to invite all interested to attend the cultural events during that weekend.
