CAMBRIDGE CELEBRATES GREEK INDEPENDENCE DAY! - MARCH 25

Cambridge, MA--In celebration of Greek Independence Day, Cambridge Community Television will show highlights of last year's parade in Boston. The hour long program includes interviews with Governor Michael Dukakis and Cambridge City Councilor Katherine Triantafillou as well as speeches by Athens Mayor Dimitri Avramopoulos, last year's Grand Marshall, and Greek Parliament Member, Panaoitis Kamenos, who gave one of the event's most inspiring speeches.Throughout the program, Greek Historian Christos Stibakos provides viewers with a history of the Greek Revolution.

The program will shown in Cambridge as follows:
Wed. March 18 5:00 p.m. Ch. 22
Fri. March 20 4:00 p.m. Ch. 9
Wed. March 25 4:00 p.m. Ch. 10
Wed. March 25 7:30 p.m. Ch. 10
Mon. March 30 9:00 p.m. Ch. 10

In addition to showing the floats and bands, members of the Greek Community show their pride. Harry Katis, owner of the Fishery Restaurant, tells of the importance and meaning of the celebration. Adults and children from the Hellenic Spirit dance troupe of Somerville demonstrate Greek folk dances. Teens from Roslindale rally to the Greek National Anthem with the pride and intensity reminiscent of Kolokotronis and the Kefts.

The show was produced by Cambridge residents George Libbares and James Cote who shot the event with Anneita Agritha and Brother R. A., also of Cambridge. For more information on the program or how you can have the Greek Parade shown on your local cable access station, contact George Libbares at 617-441-0909 extension 322 or by email at libbares@ziplink.net.
