The Foundation for Hellenic Culture, in cooperation with the Greek Embassy in the United States and the Smithsonian Institution, is proud to present a screening of the documentary, The Elgin Marbles, by William Stewart on Thursday, June 5, 6-8 pm, at the Donnell Library Center, 20 West 53rd Street. A discussion with the filmmaker will follow.

The one-hour documentary, which strongly advocates the return of the Parthenon Marbles to Greece, was shown on Britain's Channel Four last year, where it provoked an enormous response by the television audience. In fact, 92.5% of people polled following the broadcast agreed that the Marbles should be returned to Greece.

The Parthenon Marbles were removed from the Acropolis at the turn of the nineteenth century by the Earl of Elgin and were soon after bought by the British government and moved to the British Museum. Their return to Athens has been repeatedly requested by successive Greek governments over the years.
