[01] NEW OLYMPIC IN 2006

Minister of Finance and Economy Giorgos Alogoskoufis and Minister of Transportations and Communications Michalis Liapis announced the establishment of a new airline company to take over the work of Olympic Airlines in the next flight season.

The majority shares will be owned by private investors, who will be responsible for its management and operation.

Mr. Liapis assured that the Ministry of Transportations will enter a dialogue with the company employees to settle issues concerning their work and social security rights while no employee will be negatively affected.

The new company will be established in consultation with the European Union.

Main opposition Socialist Party PASOK and all the leftist parties reacted strongly.

[02] DISCONTENT FOR THE VISIT DELAY

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan speaking in NATO's parliamentary assembly in Denmark appeared displeased over the difficulties Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis -whom he called valuable friend- has concerning the visit to Turkey.

Mr. Erdogan's meeting with his Dane counterpart was completed without a press conference because the Turkish Prime Minister left when a journalist from television station Roj which according to Ankara belongs to PKK was not removed from the press room.

[03] THE GOVERNMENT SPOKESMAN ON THE "17 NOVEMBER" EXHIBITION

The promotion of messages of any kind by those who have hurt Democracy constitutes provocation during a significant anniversary for the restoration of Democracy.

The statement made government spokesman Thodoris Rousopoulos responding to a question on an exhibition on the terrorist organization "17 November" held in the National Technical University of Athens (Metsovio).

[04] DEPRESSION PREFERS THE AGE OF FORTY

The risk of a major depressive disorder during lifetime is 10-25% for women and 5-12% for men and usually happens around the age of forty.

The above is based on research data to be presented in the 2nd International Conference on Brain and Behavior to be launched in Thessaloniki tomorrow chaired by Aristotle University psychiatry professor Giorgos Kaprinis.

Fifty percent of the patients experience their first depression incident between the ages of 20-50.

[05] THE 1ST WORLD SUMMIT ON WEB GOVERNANCE TO BE HELD IN GREECE IN 2006

Minister of Transportations and Communications Michalis Liapis who attended the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Tunis today was successful in his effort to make Athens the host of the 1st World Summit on Web Governance to take place next year.

The WSIS summit is held with the participation of 50 countries, 60 heads of states, government ministers, non governmental organizations and others to discuss the effects of digital revolution and ways to limit the digital gap at world level.

[06] THE GOVERNMENT SPOKESMAN ON KARAMANLIS' VISIT TO ANKARA

The Greek Prime Minister will pay a reciprocal visit to Ankara in the appropriate time, clarified government spokesman Thodoris Rousopoulos responding to a question regarding the discontent expressed yesterday by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in response to information according to which Prime Minister Karamanlis' visit to Ankara is postponed.

Regarding the statements made by Turkish officials according to which, the Turkish troops will not be withdrawn from Cyprus, the government spokesman stated that they all move in the wrong direction given the fact that they are in contrast with the framework set by the UN resolutions.

[07] KARAMANLIS MET WITH JAILED AND EXILED PEOPLE

Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis met with representatives of the Association of Jailed and Exiled People in the period 1967-74 honoring them for their contribution to the restoration of Democracy while events commemorating the Athens Polytechnic School Student Uprising will culminate tomorrow with popular marches in Athens and Thessaloniki to be held under strict security measures.

Over 3,000 police officers will be used to protect the Athens Polytechnic School and along the route to be followed by the marchers.

Athens Mayor Dora Bakoyianni expressed discontent over the exhibition of paintings by members of terrorist group November 17 held on the Polytechnic School grounds.

[08] DEFICIT UNDER 3% IN 2006

Minister of Finance and Economy Giorgos Alogoskoufis characterized the issue of securitization as a secondary issue that has been cleared up after the meeting he had with Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis on the 2006 budget to be submitted to parliament on Monday.

Mr. Alogoskoufis stated that deficit dropped significantly from 6.6% to 4.4% in 2005, while in 2006 is predicted to drop under 3%.

[09] PETROL PRICES UNDER 57 US DOLLARS

Petrol prices are at the lowest level of the past four months while oil reserves in the United States are expected to increase.

Specifically, the US crude oil price was 56.90 US dollars a barrel this morning reduced by 0.14% compared to yesterday.

Brent price dropped 0.29% to 55.02 US dollars a barrel.

[10] PAPASTAMKOS: GREECE IS A FACTOR OF STABILITY IN SE EUROPE

Greece's creative role as a factor of political and economic stability in the region of SE Europe was highlighted by New Democracy Euro-deputy professor Giorgos Papastamkos speaking within the framework of the discussion held in the European Parliament plenary session on the strategy for the further enlargement of the European Union.

Mr. Papastamkos stated that Greece has supported the EU accession of Bulgaria and Romania in a tangible manner.

Greece also supported Turkey's European orientation under the precondition that the country will comply with international law and the European acquis. However, the occupation of a part of Cyprus Republic, the casus belli, the violations of the Greek airspace, the violation of religious freedom and the threats against the Ecumenical Patriarchate continue.

Also, Albania is being supported economically to a great degree by the immigrants working in Greece.

The European orientation of FYROM is being supported and Greece has the largest investment presence in the country but in turn it receives intransigence on the issue of the name, propaganda that is ignorant of history and historical and cultural aggressiveness, said Mr. Papastamkos.

The full acceptance and implementation of the EU principles, values and regulations is the responsibility of the above mentioned states, stressed Mr. Papastamkos, adding that it is the right of the EU to check the course of their integration.

[11] GREECE HAS THE FOURTH HIGHEST INFLATION RATE AMONG THE "25"

Inflation in Greece dropped from 3.8% in September to 3.7% in October and it is the fourth highest inflation rate among the 25 EU member states, according to European statistics agency Eurostat figures given to publicity in Brussels today.

Inflation in the Eurozone dropped from 2.6% in September to 2.5% in October, while a year ago it was 2.4%. Inflation in the 25 dropped from 2.5% in September to 2.4% in October, while a year ago it was 2.3%.

In October, the lowest inflation rates were recorded in Finland (0.8%), Sweden (0.9%), Holland (1.5%) and Poland (1.6%), while the highest were recorded in Latvia (7.7%), Luxembourg (5%), Estonia (4.5%) and Greece (3.7%).

Compared to September, inflation in October increased in eight member states, dropped in 16 and remained unchanged in Slovenia.
