Oil prices closed at .52 a barrel in the New York stock market, while in London oil prices traded a dollar lower.

The price rise is attributed to the storms that could hit the oil refineries supplying the United States.

[04] HIGHER EDUCATION ADMISSION TEST RESULTS ARE OUT

    Thessaloniki, 25 August 2005 (14:36 UTC+2)

Anxiety is over for the thousands of secondary school graduates who took the higher education admission tests in Greece. The Ministry of Education gave out the passing grades a student must have in order to be admitted in a university or Technological Training Institution.

An estimated 66,324 secondary school graduates of the 89,000 who took the admission tests will be admitted.

A rise in passing grades has been recorded in a total of 275 higher education schools, compared to 243 that recorded a drop. In two schools passing grades remained at last year's levels, while there are 15 newly created schools.

The most notable grade rise was recorded in the merchant marine captains' training school and the biggest drop in Thessaloniki's Aristotle University German Language School.

Minister of Education Marietta Giannakou called on those who passed the admission tests to make a greater effort and those who failed not to become disappointed. Because knowledge is power, more opportunities will be given to the young, stated Mrs. Giannakou.
