[01] QUESTIONS NEED ANSWERSAthens, 16 August 2005 (11:29 UTC+2)The investigation underway by the Air Accidents Investigation Committee is looking for answers to the crucial questions raised after the crash of the Helios Airways Cypriot airline at Grammatikos near Athens last Sunday, killing all 121 people on board. A three-day mourning has been declared in Cyprus, while three-minutes of silence will be observed in Greece today, a day of mourning in the country. The rescue crews continue the search on the crash site for three bodies that have not been found yet. According to the coroner investigation 11 of the passengers, among them an air stewardess, were alive during the crash. Thus, overturning speculation that passengers had frozen to death while flying at approximately 35,000 ft. Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis expressed his government's grief and his own personally to the families of the victims reiterating that investigation continues in order to shed light on the mystery crash. Helios Airways announced a compensation of 20,000 euros to the families of the victims for their immediate expenses. [02] DANGEROUS PASSION FOR PUBLICITYThessaloniki, 16 August 2005 (11:42 UTC+2)The 32-yearold private employee from Thessaloniki, who is being led before the prosecutor today, used his passion for publicity as an excuse for his lies to the mass media concerning an SMS he had allegedly received from his cousin, a passenger of the doomed airliner, informing him about the conditions on board the plane just before it crashed. The 32-yearold is accused of obstructing investigation and disseminating false news. [03] MEASURES FOR THE HIGH OIL PRICESAthens, 16 August 2005 (12:34 UTC+2)The issue of the high oil prices and the risks for price hikes on a number of consumer goods are expected to be discussed in the meeting of Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis with Minister of Development Dimitris Sioufas. Oil prices are slightly down from the record highs of last Friday when the US crude oil was at .3 a barrel, as no further problems were recorded in US oil refineries. [04] VICKY MOSCHOLIOU DIES FROM CANCERAthens, 16 August 2005 (17:09 UTC+2)Popular singer Vicky Moscholiou died today in an Athens private hospital. Vicky Moscholiou died this morning after a long hospitalization as it was known that in the past two years she was suffering from cancer. Vicky Moscholiou was born in 1943 in Metaxourgio, Athens and at the age of 19 began to sing professionally next to famous Greek singers Grigoris Bithikotsis and Doukissa. Two years later her career reached its peak when she worked with music composer Stavros Xarchakos in the screen film Lola. She also worked with music composers Spanos, Zabetas, Kaldaras, Moutsis, Theodorakis, Kougioumtsis, Tsitsanis and Vamvakaris. In 1967 she married Panathinaikos' football star Mimis Domazos but they got divorced after having two daughters Among her most popular songs were Ta trena pou figan, Ta Dilina and many others that put their mark on a whole era and are still alive in the hearts of the Greeks.
