He added that there is a great distance to be covered from the signing of a protocol until the construction of the project.

    [08] BLIND VIOLENCE

    Athens, 5 January 2005 (14:01 UTC+2)

"If we are talking about a terrorist attack, we are talking about a new form of crime characterized by blind violence, is very savage, and its ideological foundation is unclear, stated Minister of Public Order Giorgos Voulgarakis referring to the killing of special guard Charalambos Amanatidis outside the residence of the British military attaché in Kifisia, Athens on New Year's Eve.

Mr. Voulgarakis stated that it is a very complex case with many unanswered questions adding that all likely scenarios are being examined very carefully and nothing is being ruled out.

The stolen Nissan Micra used by the assailants in the attack was found near the scene of the crime and traces of blood found inside the car were matched with the blood type of the murdered special guard.

Based on the way the bullets, fired against the special guard, spread in the scene of the crime, the assassins were two males and it is believed that they were caught by surprise when the first round of fire did not kill their victim because he was wearing a bulletproof vest and tried to react by pulling his gun.

According to police sources, the likelihood of a terrorist attack becomes stronger by the hour.
