[01] EU PRESIDENCY STATEMENT ON THE ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN SECURITY AGREEMENT

The Presidency welcomes the agreement in principle regarding the
withdrawal of IDF forces from the northern part of the Gaza Strip and
Bethlehem as well as the assumption of security responsibility by
Palestinian authorities in the said areas.
The international community applauds these developments, which are the
result of a compromise and constitute an important step for the
implementation of the first phase of the Road Map.
The Presidency calls upon all parties to show the necessary prudence and responsibility so as these first positive moves may lead to the desired goal of peace and stability in the Middle East. The demonstrated spirit of compromise should prevail in the pursuit of the aforementioned objective.
