  • [01] IMPORTANT EVIDENCE ON "NOVEMBER 17" FROM CELL PHONE

    Athens, 7 April 2002 (18:47 UTC+2)

According to sources from Kathimerini newspaper, important evidence on the Saunders case came to light after the tracing, processing and evaluating of calls made via cell phones shortly before and immediately following the hit.

The authorities and secret services have the profiles of suspect cell phone users. Some are considered shooters and others are thought of as members of the support group during the specific act of terrorism. At the same time, this evaluation of connected calls, has led to a second circle of individuals linked to N17.

A few days after the Saunders assassination on June 8, 2000, the British firstly indicated and then strongly insisted that all three mobile telephony companies (Panafon, TELESTET, and Cosmote) scan and plot all calls made on the Kifisia axis from 7 that morning. For the first time the investigation was concentrated on the observation of all consecutive calls made along the course St. Saunders took on his way from Kastri to Psychiko, as those are transmitted to the antenna-stations of each telephony company.

The processing of the evidence lead to a card-mobile telephony number, recently activated, all incoming or outgoing calls of or from which were investigated in detail.

According to the newspaper, the investigations led to the receivers of the calls from the suspect mobiles, the subscription profiles of which were initially asked for, and then tracing of the individuals themselves. In the cases where it was possible, the authorities asked for the descriptions of the buyers or tapes that may have recorded them buying their phones from retail store security cameras.

    [02] KARAMANLIS ATTACK ON SIMITIS

    Athens, 7 April 2002 (16:48 UTC+2)

Greece is not being governed properly, stressed New Democracy President Kostas Karamanlis, at a meeting of Greeks living abroad held in Munich, and he launched an attack against Mr. Simitis and the government.

Never before has Greece experienced such a period of absence of government, he said and added that the Prime Minister is using populism as a last shelter before defeat. The more they see their sun setting, the more their stress and aggressiveness towards everyone will increase. The more they will distance themselves from governing Greece. Already, instead of governing, they are being the opposition to the Opposition. They turn their problems within their party, into problems of the country. They reached a point where they talked about outrages, because the majority of Greeks wants us as their next government.

They are trying to undermine New Democracy, they are trying to imprison the Left in their regime and rematch plans. Their goal is to keep the status quo at any cost for Greece. But they will not achieve their goal because the people have seen them, they have learned them, they know them, pointed out Mr. Karamanlis.

The President of New Democracy apologized to the Greeks living in Germany that political powers in Greece have not done everything they should have for them.

[05] NO EXPO WITHOUT THE UNDERGROUND

    Thessaloniki, 7 April 2002 (17:05 UTC+2)

His decision not to sign to contend in the organizing of the EXPO and not to participate in the organizing committee for the contest, if the Prime Minister does not first sign an agreement for the construction of the underground and the full securing of the TIF's future, was pointed out in an interview to the Macedonia and the Aggelioforos newspapers, by Thessaloniki Mayor, Vasilis Papageorgopoulos.

Mr. Papageorgopoulos expressed his belief that the underground will be built, but at the same time he mentioned delaying tactics on the side of the government, aiming at constructing the Thessaloniki underground after 2004, at a time the goevernment will choose.

We cannot agree to hold the EXPO if we must destroy the TIF, stressed the Mayor of Thessaloniki, who asked for clarifications as far as the future of the TIF is concerned after the EXPO, asking whether it will be transferred or whether it will remain in its present facilities, making it clear that if it is transferred, the area in which the TIF is being held today, will be turned into a large park.
