The creation of these powerful magnetic fields in a lab is important, because they are very close to the magnetic fields present in space, specifically those in neutron stars and White Dwarves, the remainders of suns. The creation of such powerful magnetic fields is important, because in order to understand our own existence we must first understand how the Universe was created.
