    [01] STATE PROSECUTOR ORDERS INVESTIGATIONS ON CAUSES OF NAVAL ACIDENT

    Athens, November 8 (M.P.A.)

    The Greek Appellate Court prosecutor has ordered an investigation on the exact causes of the collission between the Greek Navy gunboat "Kostakos" and the ferry "Samaina", which occured on Monday near the island Samos in the Aegean Sea.

    Meanwhile, the Greek Navy Headquarters announced that the efforts to find the four missing sailors are being continued.

    [02] ECUMENICAL PATRIARCHATE VARTHOLOMEOS IN MELBOURNE TODAY

    Melbourne, November 8 (M.P.A.)

    The Ecumenical Patriarchate was saluted in Perth today by the Federal Premier John Howard who welcomed him grantly to the Australian Parliament, stating that "Mr. Vartholomeos arrived here to eulogise and admire the achievements of one million Orthodox, mainly Greek, residents of Australia."

    Also, the state Parliament of South Australia approved a resolution welcoming the Patriarchate in Australia.

    [03] GREEK PARLIAMENT PRESIDENT IN PALERMO TODAY FOR EU MEETING

    Athens, November 8 (M.P.A.)

    The President of the Hellenic Parliament Apostolos Kaklamanis departs for Palermo, Sicily, today, in order to attend the meeting of Parliament Presidents of the European Union's mediterranean countries.

    Mr. Kaklamanis is expected to develop Greece's firm positions for the establishment of a euro-mediterranean association for the improved structure of a united Europe, in order to transform the Mediterranean region into a zone of mutual trust, creation and welfare.

    Specific emphasis will be given to the areas of economy, culture, protection of the EU's exterior borders and the establishment of "cohesive defense" in an effort to upgrade Europe's political credibility.

    [04] ANOTHER ROUND OF GREECE-FYROM TALKS COMPLETED IN NEW YORK

    New York, November 8 (M.P.A.)

    Another round of talks on the name issue between Greece and FYROM was completed shortly before midnight yesterday in New York, under the auspice of United Nations mediator Cyrus Vance.

    Greece's Ambassador Christos Zacharakis and FYROM's representative Ivan Tosevski will brief their respective governments on the content of their talks which they agreed to continue at a later date, as of yet unannounced.

    [05] NEW DEMOCRACY TO HOLD PARTY CONGRESS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

    Athens, November 8 (M.P.A.)

    The main opposition party, New Democracy, has decided to hold its party congress at the soonest possible date with an expanded size of delegates, following the party's Political Council meeting held yesterday with the participation of the three former Premiers Kontantinos Mitsotakis, George Rallis, Tzannis Tzannetakis and deputy George Souflias.

    The N.D. Political Council unanimously assigned the party's Vice-President Yiannis Varvitsiotis with examining when the congress could take place and under what conditions could the delegation increase in size.

    While the issue of party leadership was not brought up during yesterday's meeting, party President Miltiades Evert reiterated his commitment that on the first day of the congress's session he intends to table a proposal for the election of the party's president.

    [06] CYPRIOT PRESIDENT TO MEET WITH EU AMBASSADORS IN NICOSIA TODAY

    Nicosia, November 8 (M.P.A.)

    The President of the Republic of Cyprus Glafkos Clerides will meet today with the Ambassadors of countries-members of the European Union, a session viewed as significant since it takes place a few weeks before the EU's Summit Conference in Dublin.

    The meeting will address the procedures of Cyprus' accession to the European Union, as well as the process of the cypriot issue.

    Mr. Clerides will relay the Cypriot government's views on these two issues and is expected to express the wish to reach a solution to the Cyprus problem, or at least achieve significant progress on the issue, prior to the island's accession to the EU.

    [07] CYPRUS ISSUES DEMARCHES OVER TURKEY'S VIOLATIONS OF ISLAND'S FIR

    Nicosia, November 8 (M.P.A.)

    The Cypriot authorities have issued strong-worded demarches over the repeated violations of the island's FIR by turkish F-16 fighter jets that are participating in Turkey's military drill "Tavros".

    Yesterday, four turkish F-16 flew over Cyprus lenghtwise, while additional violations are expected today. Turkish warships are currently located within Cyprus' territorial waters.
