[06] PASCHALIDIS: EVERY GOVERNOR OFTEN HAS TO DRY HIS SOUL IN
ORDER TO RULE
Minister of Macedonia-Thrace Giorgos Paschalidis used the
saying by Konstantinos Karamanlis, who had stated that he had
"dried his soul in order to govern the country", while he called
on the prime minister to rise above everybody, regardless of
whether they are friends, associates or government ministers,
stressing that his proposal for Kostas Simitis to cut the Gordian
knot with the class of '74, does not mean neither exclusion nor
retirement of leading party officials. In 2004, it will be 30
years since 1974 and we can not appear looking like a photocopy of
the past, stated characteristically Mr. Paschalidis in an
interview with MPA.
Mr. Paschalidis proposed that the governing socialist party
of PASOK congresses should be held every two years and disagreed
with the proposal according to which, the party secretary should
be elected by the congress delegates, underlining that this way
the diarchy issue returns to the party, this time through the back
door.
The minister of Macedonia-Thrace is also in favor of clean

that the applied policy needs strong decisions.
