[02] PUBLIC ORDER MINISTER COMMENTS ON CONTACTS IN WASHINGTONWeb Posted: 14:24 GMT+2Athens, 10/10/1999 (MPA) Greece and the United States are reviewing a bilateral accord concerning terrorism-related issues, according to the Public Order Minister Michalis Chrysochoides, who recently conducted an official visit to the US, where he met with met with FBI Director Louis Freeh, Attorney General Janet Reno and other US federal law enforcement officials."We described to our interlocutors all the initiatives which we have made for the dealing with terrorism and crime, in general," Mr. Chrysohoides said, adding that the US officials acknowledged that the Greek side is attempting to restructure its law enforcement services. Furthermore, Mr. Chrysohoides stated that the US officials have neither forwarded a list of terrorism suspects, nor have they requested an examination of the DNA tests conducted on the blood spots discovered near the German ambassador's residence in Athens which was jolted by rocket fire on May 16, 1999. He stated that they merely requested that they be briefed on the course of investigation. Mr. Chrysochoides said that Washington is highly concerned over criminal activity in the Balkan region and is examining the prospect of founding a multi-national police force in the region. A.F. That's when I made a vow: Motherland, I shall never forget..."Better late than never, Mrs. Filio Haidemenou recently transposed her memories of the Asia Minor mass exodus into memoirs, describing in vivid detail the painful uprooting and the plight of the refugees. It's not the first time Mrs. Haidemenou made constructive use of her painful experience. A few years back, when she was 96, she fought - and succeeded - for the creation of the Asia Minor Museum. On October 11, within the framework of Greece's presidency of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), the organisation's Transport Group will meet to discuss infrastructure policy and easing transport. The meeting will focus on the prospects for integrating the transport infrastructures of Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria and Albania, particularly within the framework of the inter-European networks. It will also look at the possibilities of funding viable investment programs. Greece aims to project its strategic role in formulating policy by making optimum use of a Memorandum of Understanding on easing road transport in southeastern Europe. A.F.
