    [01] KRANIDIOTIS: WE DO NOT HAVE DOGMATIC DIFFERENCES WITH TURKEY

    Athens, 28/08/1999 (MPA) The policy followed by the government in the Euro-Turkish relations and the veto do not change, underlined Greek deputy foreign minister Yiannos Kranidiotis in an interview to the Athens newspaper "Imerisia".

    Mr. Kranidiotis stated that Greece was quick to help Turkey overcome the devastating earthquake responding to the tragedy at a humanitarian level within the framework of the acceptable moral values because Greece bases its foreign policy on principles.

    Mr. Kranidiotis stated in the interview that Greece does not have dogmatic differences with the Turkish people, adding that the existing differences are political and concern the problem of Cyprus and the Greek-Turkish relations. Mr. Kranidiotis stated that if those are solved there will be no problems with Turkey.

    [02] ISRAELI AND PALESTINIAN DELEGATIONS WILL MEET FOR A FOURTH TIME IN ATHENS

    Athens, 28/08/1999 (MPA) The fourth meeting of Israeli and Palestinian delegations within the framework of the "Athens Dialogue for Peace and Cooperation in the Middle East" will be held in Athens on September 2-5 under the auspices of the Greek foreign ministry.

    The meeting will be attended by leading political personalities from both sides among them, Israel's regional cooperation minister and former prime minister Simon Peres, minister to the prime minister Haim Ramon, undersecretary of foreign affairs Navaf Masalha, also Palestinian Faissal Husseini, responsible for Jerusalem issues, the Palestinian authority undersecretary of cooperation and planing Anis Al Kak and others.

    [03] THEODORAKIS IS A CANDIDATE FOR THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

    Florina, 28/08/1999 (MPA) Mikis Theodorakis' candidature for the Nobel Peace prize will be formally announced in Prespes this evening within the framework of a concert he will direct in the presence of prime minister Kostas Simitis in the small island of Agios Achillios near the city of Florina in north-western Greece.

    The announcement of his candidature for the Nobel Peace prize as well as the presentation of the names of the 200 intellectuals backing it will be made by author Giorgos Skourtis.

    [04] THE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS ARE THE GOVERNMENT'S PRIORITY

    Athens, 28/08/1999 (MPA) The large development projects will be backed by the government, according to a decision reached yesterday by the governmental committee.

    Prime minister Kostas Simitis stated during the meeting on the allocation of the 15 trillion drachmas that come from the 3rd Community Framework of Support, 9 trillion of which come from the EU and the rest from state sources, that priority will be given to the sector of man power, namely to education, vocational training and employment, as well as to agriculture, industry and trade.

    The prime minister also ruled out the likelihood of early elections and was against a government reshuffle or a change in the election law.

    [05] SIMITIS-GEORGIEVSKI MEETING IN FLORINA

    Florina, 28/08/1999 (MPA) Prime minister Kostas Simitis will be in Florina today to attend a concert directed by Mikis Theodorakis within the framework of the "Prespes '99" cultural events in Agios Achillios.

    During his stay in Florina Mr. Simitis will meet with FYROM prime minister Ljupco Georgievski, who is in the north-western Greek city since yesterday, while a formal dinner will be given in honor of his FYROM counterpart which will be attended by the foreign ministers of the two countries, Greece's Giorgos Papandreou and FYROM's Alexander Dimitrov.

    Prime minister Simitis will also have contacts with local authorities and will leave for Athens on Sunday morning.

    [06] YILMAZ: THE IMPROVEMENT OF RELATIONS WITH GREECE IS PERMANENT

    Ankara, 28/08/1999 (MPA) Mesut Yilmaz, president of the Motherland political party in Turkey which participates in the coalition government of prime minister Bulent Ecevit, stated that the improvement of relations between Greece and Turkey after the devastating earthquake that hit his country could have a long duration.

    Mr. Yilmaz pointed out that the regular dialogue that was held for a certain period of time between Greek foreign minister Giorgos Papandreou and his Turkish counterpart Ismail Cem should become an overall government policy.
