NEWS HEADLINES[A] GREECE[B] BALKANSNEWS IN DETAIL[A] GREECE[01] GREEK AND ALBANIAN CULTURE MINISTERS' MEETINGWeb Posted: 14:57 GMT+2Athens, 16/01/1999 (MPA) The construction of a building with the financial backing of Greece to house the National Theater in Tirana, a request expressed by Albanian prime minister Panteli Majko during his meeting in Athens last November with his Greek counterpart Kostas Simitis, which won the positive response of Greece, was among the issues that were discussed in the meeting of Greek and Albanian culture ministers Evangelos Venizelos and Enti Rama held in Athens.The ministers also discussed the materialization of the contents of the joint statement that was signed in December 1997 by Mr. Venizelos and the then Albanian culture minister Arta Dante on the sector of cultural heritage and development. A number of cultural events are expected to be promoted within this framework such as a Greek Cinema Week in Tirana, theater performances and a special event in the city of Koritsa dedicated to Greek Nobel prize winner poet Giorgos Seferis. [09] NEW TENSION IN KOSOVOWeb Posted: 14:15 GMT+2Belgrade, 16/01/1999 (MPA) Tension erupted again in Kosovo. Fifteen ethnic Albanian rebels were killed in clashes between the Yugoslav forces and the Kosovo Liberation Army at the village of Racak.Meanwhile, two members of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which oversees the uneasy truce in the Serb province, were injured from gunfire. Albanian prime minister Panteli Majko expressed fears that the crisis in Kosovo can spread to neighbouring countries.
