[02] FYROM'S PM: WE'LL TRY TO BREAK THE ICE WITH GREEK FM

    Web Posted: 16:57 GMT+2
Skopje, 20.12.1998 (MPA) The new Prime Minister of FYROM Ljubco Georgievski is looking forward to the imminent visit of Greek Foreign Minister Theodoros Pangalos to his country, and has stated that "we will try to break the ice with the Greek FM".

In an interview with an Athens Sunday paper, Mr. Georgievski outlined his government's policy to be adopted in its relations with Greece and stressed that the development of economic and cultural ties between the two neighbors is a priority.

Regarding the name dispute pending between the two countries, the Premier of FYROM stated that "we shall not approach a solution after a battle."

He saluted Greek Premier Kostas Simitis for his handling of the name issue.

"He made a very good move: he let the name issue be resolved on a separate line and has greatly supported political and economic cooperation. This constitutes the guide as to how we will handle the case from now on. On the one hand we will talk and try to resolve the name issue and, on the other hand, we will try our best not to hamper the economic and cultural cooperation," he stated.

Furthermore, Mr. Georgievski announced that two free trade zones are to be established near Skopje and near the Greek borders.
