    [01] THESSALONIKI STOCK EXCHANGE TO EXPAND ITS OPERATIONS

    Thessaloniki, 13/12/1998 (MPA) Thessaloniki's Stock Exchange Center has the capability of facilitation the privatization process in southeastern Europe, by bringing firms from neighboring

    countries into the Greek bourse, according to the Minister of Macedonia- Thrace Yannis Magriotis.

    Addressing a Money Show conference held in town, Mr. Magriotis stated that "the Center could be a vehicle for privatization in southeastern Europe and a channel for Greek, European and US capital into those countries. "

    The President of the Athens Stock Exchange Spyros Kouniakis also stated that the Center had the ASE's support and plans existed to complete its operation through Balkan listings.

    [02] US EMISSARY HOLBROOKE AND ENVOY MILLER IN ATHENS TOMORROW

    Athens, 13/12/1998 (MPA) US presidential emissary for Cyprus Richard Holbrooke and special State Department coordinator Thomas Miller will arrive in Athens tomorrow in order to hold talks on the Cyprus issue with Greek government officials.

    The talks will be attended by Greek Foreign Minister Theodoros Pangalos, Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos and Deputy Foreign Minister Yiannos Kranidiotis.

    Thessaloniki, 13/12/1998 (MPA) As the Education Minister Gerasimos Arsenis vows not to succumb to pressures, the tension continues to mount as students are intensifying their protests. Over 1,500 schools throughout the country are being occupied by high schoolers opposed to the proposed educational reforms, while they are preparing another massive rally for Tuesday.

    Mr. Arsenis, who insists that he will enforce the reforms as early as September1999, was in Thessaloniki today where he met with high school deans.

    [04] EUROPEANS ONCE AGAIN SAY «NO» TO TURKEY

    Vienna, 13/12/1998 (MPA) European leaders have once again voted to separate Turkey from the other countries lined up for accession to the European Union, by agreeing to include the Council of Europe's relevant decision into the Vienna Summit's final communique.

    The European Council stresses that the negotiation for the "Agenda 2000" have entered their final phase, while it stresses its commitment to the need to achieve consensus on the matter during the European Council of Brussels to be held on March 24-25, 199.

    Meanwhile, regarding the EU's budget, there was compete disagreement among the member-states.
