    [01] SWEDISH FOREIGN AID MINISTER SCHORI IN ATHENS THIS MONTH

    Athens, 08/11/1998 (MPA) Swedish Foreign Aid Minister Pierre Schori is due to address an event on Thursday evening, November 12 at the Athens Concert Hall on the subject of "Greece and Sweden in a United Europe".

    Mr. Schori is best known in Greece for the solidarity he showed to Greek democrats during the seven- year military dictatorship (1967-74) and as a close friend and associate of late Swedish premier Olaf Palme.

    [02] GREEK PM WILL TRAVEL TO WARSAW TO MEET WITH POLISH COUNTERPART

    Athens, 08/11/1998 (MPA) Prime Minister Kostas Simitis will embark on a two-day visit to Warsaw tomorrow at the invitation of his Polish counterpart Jerzy Buzek, it was announced yesterday.

    During his stay, Mr. Simitis will have talks with Mr. Buzek on bilateral and international issues.

    He will also meet with Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski and have talks with the speakers of Poland's house of representatives and senate and political party leaders.

    [03] NEW MACEDONIAN-THRACE MINISTER EXPRESSES SUPPORT FOR PREMIER

    Thessaloniki, 08/11/1998 (MPA) The newly-appointed Minister of Macedonia- Thrace Minister Yiannis Magriotis told a local paper that it is in the ruling party's best interest to have its president and Premier Kostas Simitis as the sole candidate during the upcoming party congress.

    While he admits that he supported the candidacy of Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, he explained that the current situation is different. Mr. Magriotis was appointed to his present post after the government reshuffle, replacing Philippos Petsalnikos who has been appointed to the Ministry of Public Order.

    [04] PREMIER SENDS MESSAGE OF UNITY TO PARTY MEMBERS

    Athens, 08/11/1998 (MPA) The Prime Minister Kostas Simitis has forwarded a message of unity to all of the ruling PASOK party's members, during last night's closing of the party's central committee meeting.

    He stated that the party needs a "strategy for victory" in the lead-up to general elections and to get the country into economic and monetary union.

    He further added that the party needs a winning strategy to face off opposition in the next electoral contest - European Parliament elections in June 1999 - in the wake of disappointing results for the ruling party in recent local government elections.

    [05] FYROM'S GEORGIEVSKI WANTS DIRECT DIALOGUE WITH GREECE

    Skopje, 08/11/1998 (MPA) Ljubco Georgievski, the winner in FYROM's recent election, has stated in a press interview that as soon as he officially steps in office as the country's new premier he will try to reinstate "direct" dialogue with the Greek political leaders.

    Furthermore, he stressed that during the first 100 days in office, he will try to bring democratic changes in his country and restore good neighborly ties with its neighbors, namely, Greece, Albania, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia.
