[04] 600.000 AUSTRIAN TOURISTS ARE EXPECTED IN GREECE IN 1998Web Posted: 14:33 GMT+2Thessaloniki, 04/04/1998 (M.P.A.)The Austrian tourists, who are expected to visit Greece this year, are estimated to be 600.000, confirming the upward trend that began to form since 1997.It should be reminded that according to data provided by the Greek Tourist Organization, the tourists from Austria, who visited Greece in 1997 were 570.000, which is an increase of 11,5% compared to 1996. Those facts become more impressive if it is taken under consideration that the total number of Austrians, who spent their summer vacations last year to a foreign country were 1,3 million, meaning that half of them came to Greece. The majority of the Austrian tourists namely, 330.476 people, traveled to Greece with chartered flights, while 112.375 preferred regular flights and 125.000 came by car. On the occasion of this development, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on the United States to respect the basic human rights completely and review Jamal's sentence, pointing out that the execution of the death sentence imposed on him has so far been avoided thanks to international protests. No statements were made after yesterday's meeting. According to US officials, Mr. Halbrooke is not scheduled to visit Athens and Ankara.
