There are not going to be any changes made in the government's economic policy, stated Greece' Premier Kostas Simitis as well as the ruling PASOK party's Central Committee secretary Kostas Scandalides.

The statements of the two came on the aftermath of the roar that followed the statements made by the Minster of National Economy who had said the same thing. Pasok's central committee members agreed that the government's economic measures should not be relaxed.

[04] TURKEY: CILLER REJECTS YILMAZ'S PROPOSAL FOR COOPERATION

    Web Posted: 17:11 GMT+2

    Ankara, June 22 (MPA)

Tansu Ciller has rejected the proposal submitted last night by Mesut Yilmaz that they cooperate at a state level.

As a matter of fact, Ms. Ciller accused Mr. Yilmaz of trying to "snatch" her deputies who would support his imminent cabinet.

Yilmaz, who has been appointed by President Suleiman Demirel as the Premier- designate, must secure the support of another ten deputies since his seats, along with those of Deniz Baykals' Republican People's Party and Bulent Ecevit's Democratic Left Party amount to 267, a figure just a tad short of the necessary 276 for the Parliament's vote of confidence.

[05] CYPRIOT PRESIDENT: DIRECT TALKS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO SOLVE CYPRIOT ISSUE

    Web Posted: 17:11 GMT+2

    Nicosia, June 22 (MPA)

The President of the Cypriot Republic Glafkos Clerides stated that one should not expect the Cypriot issue to be resolved during the three rounds of the direct talks that are to be held between Mr. Clerides and the Turkish-Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash.

Mr. Clerides' statements was a response to various reports which claim that the United States and Britain are expecting a high-level agreement, up until Cyprus' Presidential elections in 1998.

However, according to Cyprus' RIK, President Clerides did state that he expects developments to emerge in 1998 when the task force currently drawn by the US presidential envoy Richard Holborn will be activated.
