[01] GREEK PRIME MINISTER'S HEALTH REMAINS STABLE

Greek Prime Minister mr Andreas Papandreou's health remained unchanged today according to the second bulletin of the board of doctors observing mr Papandreou issued at 20:00 tonight,

The bulletin says that mr Papandreou is supported by artificial kidney although he was not submitted to dialysis treatment while his respiration is not supported mechanically and his heart functioning remains unchanged since 1988.

Mr Papandreou's health was also described as stable in the first report of the medical board which consinsts of 15 professors of medicine.

That bulletin issued at 13:30 mentioned that the condition of the Prime Minister's health was stable and that he continued to breath without the help of the respirator.

It also said that mr Papandreou had no fever and added that his treatment with antibiotics continued and that his renal functioning remained the same, which means that he was supported by periodical dialysis treatment.

The first bulletin repeated that his heart functioning has presented no change, since he was submitted to an open heart operation by egyptian surgeon dr Magdi Yacub in the London hospital of Heartfiled in 1988.

Since then mr Papandreou has always been very careful with his health avoiding any conditions which could endanger his condition.

The doctors today contradicted that there are disagreements between them concerning the treatment mr Papandreou should have while the Minister of Health mr Dimitris Kremastinos appealed on the press to keep to what is formally announced by the doctors and added that more information is availiable for whoever wants it.

He was admitted in the Onassion Cardiology Centre of Athens, one of the best equipped in Europe on November 20th suffering form a form of pneumonia.

Since then he has been treated in the intensive care unit of the hospital and twice has shown signs of deterioration which fortunately were soon overcome.

The greek prime minister who will be 77 next February is married to ms emetra Liani Papandreou who is also acting as the director of his personal bureau. One of the four children he had from a previous marriage is mr Giorgos Papandreou, who is an MP serving in the government in the post of the Minister of Education.

[02] EUROPEAN SOCIALISTIC PARTY LEADERS MEET IN MADRID

European Socaialistc party leaders meet today in Madrid Spain, ahead of the European Union Summit due in the spanish capital tomorrow.

Greek deligation headed in both sessions by mr Akis Tsohadjopoulos, first in order minister who according to the greek law for government substitutes the prime minister mr Andreas Papandreou in case of inability, is already in Madrid.

Mr Tsohadjopoulos has been elected as the vice president of the European Socialistic Party.

[03] GREEK EXPECTATIONS FROM THE EUROPEAN UNION SUMMIT

Greece proceed to the European Union Summit with the principles Andreas Papandreou established in the latest two summits said today mr Akis Tsohadjopoulos who according to the greek law for the governmnet substitutes the prime minister mr Andreas Papandreou.

Mr Tsohadjopoulos who heads the greek deligation in the summit underscored the greek interest for the issues of employment in the Union and the admission of new countries in the Union starting from Cyprus and Malta the negotiations on which will start six months after the finish of the intergovernmental conference.

Greek deligation will stress the social face of Europe and the ways to face the social crisis andf the issue of unemployment as well as the policy for the development which involves finding the neccesary money.

[04] ATHENS OBSERVES THE CUSTOMS UNION BETWEEN EU AND TURKEY

Voting for the customs union some of the partners of Greece in the European Union prefered to give ms Chiller a preelctoral present looking for the 60-million turkish market said today an anonimous greek governmental source commenting on the eventuality of the presense of the Turkish Prime Minister ms Tansu Chiller in Madrid at eth summit of the European Union.

Foreign Minister mr Carolos Papoulias attributed the voting for the customs union with Turkey to the impressions the members of the European Parliament had that this way they help the protection of the human rights in Turkey stressing that this is not correct.

In Athens vice minister of press and media mr Nikos Athanassakis accused the president of the main opposition party of New Democracy mr Miltiades Evert of being either hypocritical or populist.

Mr Evert had said yesterday that a government of his party will take measures for the protection of the greek textile company.

Mr Athanassakis added that the position of the greek deputies in the European parliament is not strange since the greek government had lifted all reservations concerning the customs union provided Turkey observes what they should concerning the issue of the human rights.

[05] GREECE HAILS SIGNING OF THE DAYTON AGREEMENT

Greek government hails the signing by all warring parts of the final text agreement on the peace in Bosnia which was agreed in Dayton, USA, said today the greek press and media vice minister mr Nikos Athanassakis.

Greek foreign minister mr Carolos Papoulias attended the signing of the agreement in Paris.

[06] 20 ORPHANS FROM SERBIA WILL BE HOSTED IN XANTHI,NORTH-EAST GREECE

Twenty orphans and children of refugees accompanied by their teacher will leave Belgrade tomorrow for the city of Xanthi in north-eastern Greece where they will be hosted for six months.

The children come from the municipality of Novi Beograd and during their stay in Greece they will attend their elementary school classes while at the same time they will be able to learn the greek language. The children will be hosted in Xanthi within the framework of the cooperation between the two municipalities.

[07] ARCHBISHOP OF ALBANIA HONORARY PROFESSOR IN THESSALONIKI

Archbishop of Albania, Anastasios speaking yesterday in Aristotle University after he became honorary professor in the University's School of Theology said that the Orthodox Church of Albania is a Church facing a long standing political persecution and is united with all the Orthodox Churches all over the world.

Speaking about the hardships the Albanian Church has been facing since 1937 when it became autocephalous, Archbishop Anastasios stressed it is the only Church in the Balkans that its followers do not constitute the majority of the albanian population but only 22% of it, while among them are included albanians, greeks, vlach- speaking and slav-speaking population, serbs, montenegrians and skopjans.

The Archbishop of Albania denounced the "inadmissible involvement of muslims and roman Catholics in the works of the Orthodox Church of Albania" stressing that "the Church does not accept intervention by anyone into its internal affairs and that the Orthodox Christians have the right to enjoy equal rights".

[08] PROSPECTS FOR ECONOMIC RELATIONS BETWEEN GREECE AND YUGOSLAVIA

New prospects for the economic relations between Greece and New Yugoslavia were opened today with the visit by a business delegation of 50 serb companies which arrived in Thessaloniki for contacts with businessmen from northern Greece. The delegation stressed in the opening of the meeting that the cooperation with businesses from northern Greece is the main objective of New Yugoslavia's economic policy which is being followed after the lifting of the embargo that was imposed by the international community against Rump Yugoslavia.

Both the greek and the serb side expressed optimism that there will be significant increase of the trade transactions between Serbia and northern Greece while they stressed the need for further development of the greek-serb cooperation beyond the level of bilateral relations through joint investments in third countries, mainly in the Balkans and in the Black Sea region.

Belgrade's Economic Chamber President mr.Vlaiko Stoilkovic, heading the delegation, stressed that the serb businessmen are interested mainly in cooperation in the economic transactions and tourism sectors, while they also want cooperation with Greece for the modernization of their country's road and rail network.

It was also stressed that the serb business world expects assistance from Greece in order to be renewed the business agreements with the European Union that were in effect before the embargo was imposed. Those agreements mainly concerned the exports of live animals, meat, textile products, shoes and clothes and also the transport of goods from and to the EU countries. From its part, Serbia promised to reform its trade transactions laws patterned upon the respective European Union laws.
