Press and Media Minister mr Tilemahos Hitiris described what mr Samaras said as a firework and called on mr Samaras to be more careful since, as mr Hitiris said the Greek - US agreement was signed by him in 1990 when he was foreign minister. Mr Hitiris added that Greece has no right to intervene when the bases are used by NATO under a command by the UN, although there is a greek representative in the base every day. Greece, repeated the minister, does not want to be involved in any way in the Bosnian war. [02] GREECE WELCOMES CEASEFIRE AGREEMENT ON BOSNIAGreek Foreign Ministry spokesman ambassador Constantinos Bikas welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Bosnia expressing the belief that this is the beginning of the end for the bosnian war. He also stated that the involved parties will do everything possible so that this ceasefire will turn into a permanent peace for the good of the Balkans and Europe. [03] NEW SECRETARY OF PASOK CENTRAL COMMITTEE UNDERTOOK DUTIESNew Secretary of the Central committee of the governing Socialistic PASOK mr Constantinos Scandalidis, undertook today his duties, taking over from the outgoing secretary mr Akis Tsohadjopoulos to whom a month ago had given the interior ministry. Both Mr Tsohadjopoulos who left the secretariat after a five-year stay and mr Scandalidis, appeared sure for the unity of PASOK which the press doubts today. Ex-Minister mr Dimitris Chovolas who in the last congress of the party was elected third in the central committee after late Giogros Yenimatas and resigned Theodoros Pangalos, yesterday resigned from the membership of the party and today did not exclude the eventuality that he proceeds to establishing a new party. Press and Media Minister mr Tilamachos Hitiris preferred to keep low tones and not comment on the developments. [04] ATHENS SATISFIED OVER EU POSITION ON GREEK SHIPBUILDING UNITSGreek Press and Media Minister mr Tilemachos Hitiris expressed today the government's satisfaction over the position adopted by the European Commission on the issue of the greek shipbuilding unit of Scaramagas, near Athens. As it has been known from Brussles, the Commissioner Carl van Mirt asked for more evidence on the Greek suggestion on the way the pribatization should take palce. [05] TALKS BETWEEN GREEK-FYROM CONTINUED FOR A THIRD DAY IN SKOPJEThe talks between the greek and FYROM Foreign Ministry delegations continued for a third day today in Skopje aiming at the settlement of the last pending technical and practical issues concerning the implementation of the interim agreement that was signed by the two sides in New York and will come into effect on Sunday, October 15th. In a statement issued by FYROM's Foreign Ministry late last night it was mentioned that the talks are being held in a constructive atmosphere, and that solutions have been found for many practical issues while the talks will continue and today for the final phrasing of the document that will be adopted. The talks are expected to be completed at noon today and while later the two delegations will give a press conference. Meanwhile, greek Foreign Ministry spokesman mr Constantinos Bikas stated that the talks between the greek and FYROM delegations continue in a positive and good atmosphere adding that will be completed soon in the framework of the deadline set by the interim agreement signed in New York by the Foreign Ministers of Greece and FYROM. [06] CONFERENCE OF ENERGY MINISTERS FROM BALKAN AND BLACK SEAThe Energy Ministers of Greece, Russia, Armenia, Bulgaria, Albania, Turkey, Romania, Moldavia, Ukraine and FYROM will participate in the conference organized by the European Commission under the title "Link ups of natural gas, oil and electricity networks in the Balkans". The conference will be held in Thessaloniki on October 16-17. The conference will be officially opened by greek European Union Commissioner on Energy mr. Christos Papoutsis and will take place in the framework of the Union programme SYNERGY (International Cooperation on Energy). High-ranked officials of governments and energy organizations from the Balkans, the Black Sea region and the Eastern Mediterranean and also officials from the European Commission, the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development are included among the speakers. Investment programmes on energy networks link ups in the Balkans, the Mediterranean and the Eurasian regions will also be presented in the conference i. Investment plans of high importance for Greece such as the oil pipe-line of Bourgas - Alexandroupolis , the natural gas pipe-line and the link up of the greek and italian electricity networks will also be discussed . [07] THE GREEK FOREIGN MINISTER WILL MAKE A FORMAL VISIT TO CHINAGreek Foreign Minister Karolos Papoulias will formally visit China on Saturday, October 15th, as head of a political and economic delegation, aiming at strengthening the relations between the two countries. Mr.Papoulias will be accompanied by Merchant Marine Minister, mr Giorgos Katsifaras, Akternate Minister of National Economy, mr Giorgos Anthopoulos, the director of the Bank of Commerce and by other bankers and businessmen. [08] THE MAYOR OF MOSCOW WILL VISIT ATHENSThe mayor of Moscow is expected to arrive in Athens tomorrow for a three-day visit after an invitation by the city's mayor, Dimitris Avramopoulos. According to greek Ambassador in Russia mr.Rodousakis, who gave an interview to Moscow's state radio, the visit aims at strengthening the relations between the two cities and also at the exchange of experience in order to deal with common problems. Also, the greek Ambassador stated that the mayors of Athens and Moscow will give a special emphasis to the solution of ecological problems faced by the two cities. During his visit in Athens, the mayor of Moscow will meet with the greek President of the Republic while he will have talks with the President of the greek Parliament and with cabinet ministers. |
