The coming fortnight is considered crucial for the evaluation of Greece's economy and the taking of additional measures within the government's efforts to get political support so it can borrow at the same rate as other countries. A team of EU inspectors is arriving in Athens while EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner, Olli Rehn is coming in the next 10 days. The government is trying to accelerate implementation of Growth and Stability Plan and has called two meetings on development and social policy. Furthermore draft-bills on taxation and income policies are to be reviewed this week. In the meantime, the government and the EU have rejected speculation that the EU will provide Greece aid worth up to 25bn euros.

A team of experts from the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund arrives in Athens on Monday afternoon to inspect the materialization course of the Growth and Stability Plan. The team of experts will meet with George Zanias, president of Finance Ministry Economic Experts Council, Bank of Greece and Employment Ministry officials.

Meetings on Development and Social Policy

Prime-minister G. Papandreou chaired a meeting focused on acceleration of all programs in the development part of the Growth program.

"From November and on all our efforts have been centered to get economy started, providing liquidity to companies, promoting private and public investments and deep reforms", said Minister for Economics Louka Katselis. She also underlined that Greece's Growth and Stability Plan submitted to the EU can deal with the situation.
