    With the Ash Monday being only two days away, markets are getting busier and busier, as people are rushing to make their last buys for their Lenten table. The Varvakios market will remain Friday and Saturday open to the public until 1800 hours. On Sunday, it will remain open until 2200 hours and on Ash Monday until 1300 hours.

    The Athens prefectural authorities are carrying out intensive inspections to make sure no irregularities take place.

    The inspections conducted by the Piraeus Prefecture were successful enough, since it confiscated 2.8 tonnes of sea food in Keratsini and the island of Salamis.

    [02] Inner Cabinet Meeting

    Prime-minister George Papandreou briefed the Inner Cabinet on the outcome of the EU Summit meeting underlining : " the fight to restore Greece's credibility has not ended" and "EU capability to face markets is now being tested". Mr. Papandreou described as significant Brussels decision to support Greece's efforts and once again repeated the need for strict implementation of Stability Plan. The prime-minister launched attack against ND government blaming it for having dissolved economy and zeroed the country's credibility abroad". The meeting of the Inner Cabinet continues as crucial issues such as draft-bill on economy, transparency and reforms in National Regional development Plan. PASOK Political Council is holding a meeting later.

    Absorb β¬10.3 from ESPA

    The government intends to dole out 10 billion euros from ESPA( National Strategic Reference Framework 2007-2013) funds to support regional development. "The government plans to absorb 10.3 billion euros from ESPA in 2010", said Minister for Economics, Louka Katselis after her meeting with general secretaries of regional districts to discuss preparations of the Plan. Furthermore, two draft-bills providing for liberation of architect, lawyer, notary public services as well as reintroduction of slot machines will be also discussed. Mrs. Katselis called competent officials to submit their proposals for reviews of programs until March, 10 and added that the 300 million euros the state owed to 3rd Community Framework and Development program would be allocated in the first half of 2010.
