[01] Gov't Calls for Dialogue to Address the Row with Farmers

The government urged the farmers anew to leave the road blocks, open
the border crossings and join an open dialogue. The government
spokesman stressed that the government has met several of the farmers'
grievances, however the financial demands are hard to be met. The
Agricultural Development Minister held talks Thursday evening with the
farmers from the prefectures of Grevena and Elia. The farmers, on the
other hand, said that their future stance depends on the answers they
are going to get.
"We have urged the farmers yet again to leave the road blocks and open
the border crossings and join the dialogue," said government spokesman
Giorgos Petalotis.
The government spokesman stressed that the government is willing to
meet more institutional grievances, however, he ruled out meeting any
financial claim since the Greek economy cannot afford it.
