The aim is to have a new government with a fresh mandate to negotiate with the EU the country's exit from the financial crisis. Mr. Papandreou also proposed agreement for Mr. Papoulias re-election in the post of President of the Republic in parallel with the holding of early elections. Immediate was the government's spokesman response.PASOK president repeated that the main opposition party will support Mr. Papoulias re-election to the presidency office if he himself wants it and stressed that today's President of the Republic has highly honored his post. Mr. Papandreou underlined that early elections will appoint a new government which will set a trustworthy budget for 2010 and draw a new course of hope and restructuring of the country. Mr. Papandreou underlined that results of elections for the European Parliament indicated demand for change of policy. He described the following months as crucial for the country and referred to PASOK 100 days program which has three axes: restructuring of economy, protection of peoples' income and a tough battle to combat corruption and support transparency. In an immediate response government spokesman Evangelos Antonaros said: â Mr. Papandreou once again attempted to involve the President of the Republic in his petty partisan plans.
