[02] Arrest Warrant against Karavelas' Daughter

Special prosecutor issued yesterday an arrest warrant against the daughter of Siemens' former director of finance Christos Karavelas for money laundering. Mr. Karavelas' wife and his other two daughters have also been called to testify today to the prosecutor. Based on investigation, Karavelas had mutual bank accounts with his family members. Based on their balances after investigation, money were transferred to banks abroad in 2008.

Karavelas' counselor states that Mr. Karavelas is in Germany and will testify to German authorities shortly. His defense will be based on the fact that if he is found guilty for the offences he is being charged by the Greek authorities, he will ask from German justice to intervene as his offences took place in Germany. For that reason, the charges of bribery and money laundry he is facing in Greece are considered regulatory offences in Germany.

Accused G. Skarpelis and I. Georgiou who are still under detention in the headquarters of police department will testify on Wednesday. Their counselors ask an extension as they have not received the briefs of the cases yet due to bureaucratic reasons.
